CNN Calls to Ban Conservative Voices, OANN and Newsmax

Posted on 18 January 2021

It’s official now. CNN is calling for conservatives and right-leaning news organizations to be de-platformed or banned. After this most recent appearance on Reliable Sources, it’s hard to argue anything otherwise. On January 17, CNN’s Brian Stelter invited Director of The Stanford Internet Observatory Alex Stamos to discuss extremism. Regarding the Capitol Hill events, Stamos quickly encourages action against “violent extremists,” but he may have revealed more of the game than viewers would like when he continued adding: "We have to turn down the capability of these Conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences. There are people on YouTube for example that have a larger audience than daytime CNN."     On CNN this morning: "We have to turn down the capability of these Conservative influencers to reach these huge audiences." "There are people on YouTube for example that have a larger audience than daytime CNN" Then calls for @OANN and @Newsmax to be deplatformed. pic.twitter.com/X34oewb1oU — Benny (@bennyjohnson) January 17, 2021   Stamos claims this is dangerous since these conservative influencers promote “radical views,” but using CNN as a standard, that could mean anything from approving of the Capitol Hill events to think Trump isn’t literally Hitler. The fact that they have a larger audience than daytime CNN also says a lot more about mainstream media than their own views anyway. Stamos wasn’t finished when he added that there needs to be some action regarding the OANN and Newsmax “problem”: “We’re going to have to figure out the OANN and Newsmax problem. You know, these companies have freedom of speech, but I’m not sure we need Verizon, AT&T, Comcast to bringing them to tens of millions of homes.” Stelter, of course, nods his head in agreement the entire time. The “problem” in this case seems to be millions of people seeing a different perspective, and companies responding to a changing audience. This apparently can no longer be tolerated on CNN. Considering CNN was quick to demonize Parler and even attacked Facebook for hosting different views, it’s clear that this mainstream network is 100% anti-free speech.
