Surprise! MSNBC’s Joy Reid Compares Affirmative Action Bans to Jim Crow

Posted on 22 April 2014

On Tuesday’s Hardball, fill-in host Joy Reid compared the Supreme Court upholding a state ban on affirmative action to upholding white supremacy.

“If this court has a central narrative, it could be that those who have held the advantage for most of this country’s history deserve to have it back if they can find the legislative or political means to take it back. If they do, the Court won’t stand in the way,” Reid ranted at the end of the show. [Video coming soon. Audio here.]

44 People Shot in Rahm Emanuel’s Bloody Chicago; CBS Ignores

Posted on 22 April 2014

Forty four people were shot over the last three days in a bloody epidemic sweeping Rahm Emanuel’s Chicago. Yet, CBS has, thus far, ignored the crime wave. In contrast, ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS This Morning on Tuesday both briefly covered the violence in the city run by Barack Obama’s former chief of staff.

GMA news reader Dan Abrams explained, “Special authorities are creating a special crime-fighting unit in Chicago after a shocking spike in street violence.” [See video below. MP3 audio here.] He noted that among the victims were “six children and two more teenagers overnight.” On Today, Willie Geist explained that five children were shot in a park on Easter Sunday. Even though CBS allowed no time for tragic news out of Chicago, the network’s morning show devoted four minutes to a possible maple syrup shortage.

No Bad News for Michelle: Nets Skip Protest Over First Lady’s High School Graduation Speech

Posted on 22 April 2014

ABC, NBC and CBS routinely offer fawning coverage over Michelle Obama and her role as First Lady. However, a growing protest related to a planned gradation speech in Kansas has been ignored by the networks.

Fox and Friends covered the story on Sunday. Co-anchor Ainsley Earhardt explained, “The five high schools in the district would have a single ceremony, limiting the number of guests that each student can invite.” She added, “Students and parents spoke out at a recent school board meeting saying that she might…upstage their big day.” [See video below. If abortion is the abhorrent option – and I believe it is – then adoption by any two loving people has got to be the better option.”

Breaking News From CNN! The Titanic Sunk…102 Years Ago

Posted on 19 April 2014

CNN has been roundly mocked this week for extreme abuse of the “breaking news alert.” On Monday night, Bill Weir combined yet another of the network’s stories on the missing Malaysian flight with the anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking. A graphic appeared on-screen that blared, “BREAKING NEWS: Titanic sunk 102 years ago tonight.”

The segment was so ridiculous that even the liberal Washington Post derided CNN. Humor writer Alexandra Petri scolded her cable colleagues, sarcastically noting, “Thank heavens they’re here to tell us these things!” She wondered, “What happened to the Hinderberg? Is the Lusitania okay? I haven’t heard from that Donner Party in a while.”  [See video of the CNN segment below.]

CBS Devotes 15 Minutes to Obama Interview: No IRS, Benghazi or Health Care

Posted on 17 April 2014

CBS News devoted 15 and a half minutes on Wednesday night and Thursday morning to an interview with Barack Obama. Despite April 15th having just passed, correspondent Major Garrett offered no questions on taxes or the IRS scandal. He also avoided any queries on ObamaCare or the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Instead, more than four minutes on This Morning were given over to a horse race discussion on 2016. (Joe Biden joined the interview for that section.) Garrett did press the President on Russia and Ukraine, quizzing, “In your mind, is there a line, never mind the color, is there a line in eastern Europe or Ukraine, that Vladimir Putin must not cross?” After Obama paused as he formulated an answer, the journalist prodded, “Can you articulate that for the world and for the Russian government?” [See video below. How do we do it? First we stop spending money we don’t have.” [Video below. MP3 audio here.]

Bernstein, formerly Vice President Joe Biden’s chief economist, blasted Ryan for being “wrong on the numbers” (even though Ryan didn’t cite any numbers in the clip). He claimed:

The anchor didn’t identify Rubin as either a former Clinton administration official or as the husband of CNN personality Christiane Amanpour. Interestingly, the State Department veteran didn’t give Cuomo the response he was looking for: [MP3 audio available here; video below the jump]
