Politico’s Simon: Perry Sending National Guard to Border ‘To Shoot Small Children’

Posted on 22 July 2014

Roger Simon “joined Politico as its first chief political columnist” in 2006. A couple of items on his resume include being “the only person to win twice the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award for commentary,” and a 2013 National Press Club humor-related award. Judges for that award said that “Simon’s writing is witty, specific and based on sharp observations of politics and the media.”

Perhaps, but at least one of his recent tweets is bitter, loony-tunes leftist rubbish. Proving once again that it only takes a slight scratch beneath the surface of a supposedly mainstream liberal journalist to find a hardened, vitriolic radical who hates (yes, that’s the correct word) those who dare to disagree with him or her just screaming to come out, Simon tweeted the following in response to news that Texas Governor Rick Perry is calling up 1,000 National Guardsman to serve at his state’s border with Mexico (HT RedState):

Citing ‘Legitimacy of the Court,’ MSNBC’s Melber Hopes John Roberts Rides to ObamaCare Rescue Yet Again

Posted on 22 July 2014

In the aftermath of a DC circuit court ruling today that would effectively end ObamaCare as we know it in the 36 states with federal exchanges, MSNBC’s The Reid Report feared the worst, and attempted to rally the troops, so to speak. Host Joy Reid played the part, bringing on two guests who rejected the notion that this ruling would be accepted by the full appeals court panel or the Supreme Court.

One guest, co-host of The Cycle Ari Melber, played the “legitimacy of the court” card, hardly an uncommon practice when liberals feel they are on the short end of the judicial stick. He argued that Chief Justice John Roberts – the swing vote in upholding the ObamaCare individual mandate as a “tax” – would never let this happen: [MP3 audio here; video below]

Monday’s CBS Evening News was the only Big Three morning or evening newscast to cover the conviction of Azamat Tazhayakov, who was found guilty of obstructing the investigation into the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Jurors also convicted Tazhayakov of taking part in a “conspiracy with his off-campus roommate to hide incriminating evidence in the days immediately after the attack,” as reported by the Boston Globe on Monday.

Anchor Scott Pelley gave a 19-second news brief to the conviction of the former student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth: [MP3 audio available here; video below the jump]

MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ Fawns Over Nancy Pelosi

Posted on 22 July 2014

The July 22 edition of Morning Joe boasted an exclusive interview with Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). But before Pelosi came on set, MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts featured his own slobbering interview with the politician in their shared hometown of Baltimore. Much to co-host Mika Brzezinski’s delight, Roberts delved into “Pelosi’s political roots” which “run deep.”

The segment featured Pelosi quipping with aging Baltimore residents because, Roberts explained, “Pelosi still recognizes the power and charm of retail politics.” According to the Way Too Early host, being “the only daughter of one of Baltimore’s longest serving mayors, Thomas D’Alesandro,” it was “Pelosi’s childhood, answering the door at her family home, trying to help the people who came to see her dad that proved to be her political training ground.” [See video below. CNN’s Costello Hits Obama For West Coast Fundraising Trip, Immigration Crisis

Posted on 22 July 2014

The mainstream media has largely deflected criticism from the President on a number of recent crises, but CNN’s Carol Costello hit Obama for his frequent fundraisers in a discussion about his ability to prioritize the immigration crisis, Ukraine, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Leading off the segment on the July 22 edition of CNN Newsroom, Costello questioned the White House’s logic that they can “walk and chew gum” at the same time: “But let’s face it, he’s got five, count them, five fundraisers in the next two days on the west coast. Wouldn’t you agree at the very least this is an example of bad optics?” [MP3 audio here; video below]

Brian Williams Grills Netanyahu, Then Touts Hamas Calling Him A ‘War Criminal’

Posted on 22 July 2014

In an interview with Benjamin Netanyahu aired on Monday’s NBC Nightly News, anchor Brian Williams hyped how the Israeli Prime Minister was “under increasing fire for the civilian deaths we’ve seen in Gaza” and proceeded to hammer Netanyahu on the topic: “Last night our network aired scenes of the largest hospital in Gaza having to turn away dead bodies at the hospital morgue. There was no more room….How does it strike you as a father, as a human being?” [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Following the tough questions to Netanyahu, Williams didn’t bother to bring on a Palestinian official to equally grill, instead, he simply read a statement from Hamas terrorists: “Hamas tells NBC News in a statement tonight, quote, ‘It is Netanyahu and his army of war criminals that have targeted and continue to target innocent and defenseless civilians. As for Hamas, every single Israeli killed by its fighters or its rockets except one have been soldiers in uniform, on duty, fully armed and on the battlefield.’”

Dungy a ‘Pathetic’ ‘Homophobe’ for Saying He Wouldn’t Have Drafted Gay Player

Posted on 22 July 2014

These days, if a former NFL coach makes a vague statement about an openly gay sports player who was fawned over by the media, he can expect to be called a “homophobe” and “bigot” for not getting aboard the pro-gay train.

Dungy, former coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and current NBC sports analyst, told The Tampa Tribune, “I wouldn’t have taken him [Michael Sam]. Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”

Dungy elaborated, “It’s not going to be totally smooth…things will happen.” For this cautious statement, Dungy was attacked by the media as homophobic and discriminatory.

ABC Derides Perry’s Border Move: ‘Not Needed’ and Comes With a ‘Hefty Price Tag’

Posted on 22 July 2014

All three morning shows on Tuesday worried about Governor Rick Perry’s “controversial,” expensive move to send the National Guard to the Texas border. But it was ABC’s Good Morning America on Tuesday that offered the most annoyed commentary. GMA correspondent Jim Avila began his report by lecturing, “But the border patrol says [National Guard troops are] not needed because federal law prohibits the military from enforcing civilian laws.”

Avila also highlighted that Operation Strong Safety comes “with a hefty price tag of $12 million per month.” The journalist continued his critique, deriding, “The head of the border patrol telling ABC News he has other needs. It’s not about detaining the child immigrants. They’re giving themselves up.” An irritated Avila added, “It’s about where to put them and neither Governor Perry or the Guard has offered any help with that.” [See video below. MP3 audio here.]
