Mitchell Demands End to Trump’s ‘Anti-Iran,’ ‘Pro-Israel’ Foreign Policy

Posted on 18 November 2020

On her MSNBC show on Wednesday, anchor Andrea Mitchell repeatedly whined over the Trump administration still conducting foreign policy after the election, as if that was unusual or improper. She was particularly outraged that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was traveling to the Middle East to push an “anti-Iran” and “pro-Israel” agenda. “Also, new sanctions against Iran today, again, making it harder for the president incoming to unwind the Iran nuclear deal because there’s a lot more that he’s gonna have to figure out with Iran to even get back to square one if he wants to reset relations with Europeans and with Iran in the Middle East,” Mitchell breathlessly fretted early in the 12:00 p.m. ET hour, clearly rooting for Joe Biden to get back in Iran’s good graces.     Turning to White House correspondent Kristen Welker, she further complained: “Mike Pompeo is in Israel today doubling down on their, you know anti-Palestinian posture. What do they do about all of this?” Welker commiserated: “Well, I think you’re absolutely right, and that is why you see so much frustration among Democrats on Capitol Hill and among those who are close to President-Elect Biden.” Minutes later, talking to Obama administration hack and former CIA Director John Brennan, Mitchell continued harping on the topic: “Mike Pompeo is in Israel today, doubling down on the anti-Iran, you know, posture, the pro-Israel, anti-Palestinian posture.” She wrung her hands over the Treasury Department “announcing new sanctions today” on Iran and how that move was “going to make it a lot harder for Joe Biden to try to resume the Iran nuclear deal.” Brennan echoed her leftist talking points: “I’m hoping there will be no activity that really is going to make it more difficult for us to try to repair the damage that has been done over the last four years in terms of Donald Trump’s actions on Middle East policies.” Finally, turning to yet another Obama administration shill, former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, Mitchell mourned: “...we have the Secretary of State in Israel today, you know, cementing or trying to cement policy, anti-Palestinian policy.” Mitchell and her left-wing buddies just can’t wait to get back to the good old days were Democrats work to appease America’s enemies and shun America’s allies. Here is a transcript of the November 18 coverage: 12:08 PM ET (...)                  ANDREA MITCHELL: Also, new sanctions against Iran today, again, making it harder for the president incoming to unwind the Iran nuclear deal because there’s a lot more that he’s gonna have to figure out with Iran to even get back to square one if he wants to reset relations with Europeans and with Iran in the Middle East. Mike Pompeo is in Israel today... KRISTEN WELKER: That’s right, Andrea. MITCHELL: ...doubling down on their, you know anti-Palestinian posture. What do they do about all of this? WELKER: Well, I think you’re absolutely right, and that is why you see so much frustration among Democrats on Capitol Hill and among those who are close to President-Elect Biden. (...) 12:14 PM ET     (...) ANDREA MITCHELL: And finally, Iran. Mike Pompeo is in Israel today, doubling down on the anti-Iran, you know, posture, the pro-Israel, anti-Palestinian posture. And also, the Treasury is announcing new sanctions today, it’s going to make it a lot harder for Joe Biden to try to resume the Iran nuclear deal. It also makes it a lot harder for him to do anything in the Middle East with Israel. JOHN BRENNAN: Well, yes, and recent reports that Donald Trump was actively considering a major military strike against Iranian targets really is quite disturbing, because what we don’t want to do is to trigger some type of conflict right now during this transition period when Joe Biden has to pick up the pieces on January 20th. So Mike Pompeo has demonstrated time and again that he’s willing to do Donald Trump’s bidding irrespective of what the implications are for U.S. National security interests. And so I’m hoping there will be no activity that really is going to make it more difficult for us to try to repair the damage that has been done over the last four years in terms of Donald Trump’s actions on Middle East policies. It really needs to be addressed very carefully. And that’s why I think it is outrageous that Joe Biden and his team have not been allowed to have insight into what is currently underway in the Middle East and around the world. This transition period is so critically important to ensure that U.S. national security interests are going to be protected. (...) 12:31 PM ET MITCHELL: And joining me now, Susan Rice, National Security Adviser and former Ambassador to the United Nations during the Obama administration, the author of Tough Love. Speaking of tough love, somebody’s got to give some tough love to the Oval Office right now because you just heard what Admiral Giroir said, we're at a critical stage, the worst stage yet of the pandemic. And the same goes for national security, we have the Secretary of State in Israel today, you know, cementing or trying to cement policy, anti-Palestinian policy. This transition needs to proceed.
