Jake Tapper Backs Down on Pursuing Biden’s Gaffes After Wife Jill Objects

Posted on 27 September 2020

Do you know how to keep CNN's Jake Tapper from pursuing a particular line of questioning? Merely object vigorously. Actually that's not quite right. For this to actually work, the person objecting must be a Democrat.  Especially if the husband of the Democrat is running for president. Such was the case on Sunday's State of the Union when Jake Tapper was interviewing Jill Biden and brought up the subject of her husband's notorious gaffes. This caused Jill to quickly shut Tapper down with her vigorous objections as you can see in this video which was widely mocked on Twitter. CNN’s @jaketapper to Jill Biden: “Your husband has been known to make the occasional gaffe…” Biden: “You can’t even go there. After Donald Trump you cannot even say the word gaffe.” #CNNSOTU pic.twitter.com/bBInkVhm6L — State of the Union (@CNNSotu) September 27, 2020 JAKE TAPPER: Your husband has been known to make the occasional gaffe. JILL BIDEN: Oh, you can't even go there. You can -- after Donald Trump, you cannot even say the word gaffe. TAPPER: Well, that's what I want -- I can't even say the word gaffe? BIDEN: It is -- nope. TAPPER: But you... BIDEN: Nope. Done. It's gone. TAPPER: The gaffe issue is over because... BIDEN: Over, so over. Got that Jake? You got your marching orders. Done! It's gone! Over, so over! Apparently Tapper go the message because the very next words out of his mouth went to the theme of Orange Man Bad: TAPPER: What do you think about the fact that President Trump is hemming and hawing when it comes to the issue of an orderly transition of power, should he lose on November 3? Of course, Tapper's meekness in the face of Jill Biden's objections to his gaffe question did not go unnoticed on Twitter. A few examples of the reactions. What a sellout joke Tapper has turned into. I didn't even know he knew how to smile until he was letting Jill Biden weakly slap away a legitimate question without answering it. — Hilohaw (@Hilohaw) September 27, 2020 Excuse me, but the American people get to determine when the gaffe issue is over, not his sister...I mean his wife. This reminds me of socialism/communism regimes when media is told there’s ZERO TOLERANCE FOR NEGATIVE NEWS. If you haven’t opened your eyes yet, it’s time USA!! — Gabby (@owlvision2020) September 27, 2020 So why did you back down on your line of questions, Jake? @JoeBiden is still the king of gaffes and @DrBiden freaking knows it. They want to downplay his potential train wreck that we all know is going to happen. — Bernie Sandner (@BernieSandner) September 27, 2020 Exit question: Why didn't Jake Tapper ask the all too obvious question of "Where's Joe?" After all, he is the candidate so shouldn't he have been sitting at a great social distance away from Tapper answering questions instead of his wife acting as proxy?
