Andrea Mitchell Slimes Trump 2020 as ‘I’m Going to Protect You From Black People’

Posted on 20 July 2020

It’s not bad enough that MSNBC and CNN have just decided to censor most footage of actual Donald Trump events, now Andrea Mitchell is simply making up fake quotes to call him a racist. On Friday and Monday, a horrified Mitchell spun the President as running a bigoted campaign.  Talking to Philip Rucker of the Washington Post, Mitchell began, “Another issue that he has been raising is his appeal to the suburbs, talking about the destruction of the suburbs under the Obama administration. This clearly, Phil, to both of you, and then Kristen, it is a play, a blatant play for white voters.”  The supposed straight journalist “He's really talking about the Fair Housing Act, not just the changes made under recent previous presidents, but this goes all the way back to LBJ He's basically saying to white suburbanites, I guess, “‘I'm going to protect you from black people’?”      On Monday, a still angry Mitchell talked to new MSNBC prime time host Joy Reid and continued the race attacks, saying “this is beyond dog whistles.”  Joining me now is MSNBC’s Joy Reid. Her new primetime show The ReidOut premiering tonight at 7PM Eastern. We could not be more excited, Joy, and you’ve got two new guests for the first show, Joe Biden and Hilary Clinton. Could not be better timed. And at a time when the President — this is beyond dog whistles. He’s talking about “I’m going to save the suburbs.”  The blatant, partisan attacks from MSNBC “journalists” were sponsored by Colonial Penn and Home Advisor. This clearly, Phil, to both of you, and then Kristen, it is a play, a blatant play for white voters. He's really talking about the Fair Housing Act, not just the changes made under recent previous presidents, but this goes all the way back to LBJ He's basically saying to white suburbanites, I guess, “I'm going to protect you from black people”?  . PHILIP RUCKER: That’s right, Andrea.... This is a strategy by the President to win back some of those white suburban voters who have been fleeing him according to the polls, in particular college-educated white women who left the Republican Party en masse in 2018 to help Democrats win back the House. And polling shows they're with Biden right now. But if Trump can peel some of them back into the fold between now and November he could have a better chance of carrying a state like Pennsylvania where there are so many suburban voters in the Philadelphia area, for example. So there's a deliberate effort here to try to win back those white suburban women.  7/20/20 12:53 PM ET MITCHELL: Joining me now is MSNBC’s Joy Reid. He’s talking about “I’m going to save the suburbs.” He’s going to redo the Fair Housing Act by executive order. He’s threatening to veto the entire Defense Authorization bill because the Pentagon went ahead and said they are considering renaming the names of Confederate-named bases. It could not be a better moment for you and your guests to be on our air in prime time.
