You don’t think socialism is funny?

RedState has detailed an amazing story called, “Call For Informants: If You Oppose ObamaCare, the White House Wants to Know About It!

If you see anybody publicly opposing President Obama’s plan to implement a government-centric overhaul of the health care system, the White House wants you to report that person (or persons) ASAP.obama-socialism
From the White House website:

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected]

Does this remind anyone of Adolf Hitler’s Youth Society? That socialist liberal extremist asked kids to turn in their own parents if they were not supporters. Now Obama’s acting like a fascist too. The ‘Obama Fourth Reich’ wants your name on a list if you disagree with his socialist healthcare takeover!

Are you on the Whitehouse list?  Is your email/ your friends emails on the list?

UPDATE #3: Obama’s Kenyan Birth Certificate

Tags: , , , , , ,

Story by Joseph Farah of WordNetDaily

Is this really smoking gun of Obama’s Kenyan birth?
Attorney files motion for authentication of alleged 1960s certificate from Africa

WASHINGTON – California attorney Orly Taitz, who has filed a number of lawsuits demanding proof of Barack Obama’s eligibility to serve as president, has released a copy of what purports to be a Kenyan certification of birth and has filed a new motion in U.S. District Court for its authentication.

This document purports to be a Kenyan certification of birth for Barack Obama, allegedly born in Mombasa, Kenya, in 1961

The document lists Obama’s parents as Barack Hussein Obama and Stanley Ann Obama, formerly Stanley Ann Dunham, the birth date as Aug. 4, 1961, and the hospital of birth as Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya.

Document enlarged to show detail alleges Barack Obama was born at Coast General Hospital in Mombasa on Aug. 4, 1961

No doctor is listed. But the alleged certificate bears the signature of the deputy registrar of Coast Province, Joshua Simon Oduya. It was allegedly issued as a certified copy of the original in February 1964.

WND was able to obtain other birth certificates from Kenya for purposes of comparison, and the form of the documents appear to be identical.

An enlarged view of the bottom of the document

Last week, a counterfeit document purporting to be Obama’s Kenyan birth certificate made the rounds of the Internet, but was quickly determined to be fraudulent. The new document released by Taitz bears none of the obvious traits of a hoax.

One of the issues Taitz must deal with will be the authentication of the document. Critics immediately jumped on the Feb. 17, 1964, date for the document, explaining that the “republic” of Kenya wasn’t assembled until in December of that year.

Media Matters wrote, “Sorry, WorldNetDaily: Kenya wasn’t a republic until Dec. 1964.”

But Kenya’s official independence was in 1963, and any number of labels could have been applied to government documents during that time period.

At Ameriborn Constitution News, the researcher noted that the independence process for the nation actually started taking as early as 1957, when there were the first direct elections for Africans to the Legislative Council.

“Kenya became an Independent Republic, December 12, 1963, which gives more [credibility] that this is a true document,” the website stated.

The 1963 independence is corroborated by several other information sources, including the online African History.

Even the People Daily news agency cited, on Dec. 12, 2005, the “42nd independence anniversary” in Nairobi. “The country gained independence from Britain on Dec. 12, 1963,” the report said.

An online copy of the Kenya Constitution, “adopted in 1963, amended in 1999,” states: “CHAPTER I – THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, Article 1, Kenya is a sovereign Republic. Article 1A, The Republic of Kenya shall be a multiparty democratic state…”

It was in November 1964 when the region voluntarily became a one-party state, according to an online source.

The region including Mombasa originally was dealt with as a separate independence movement, but it almost immediately became part of Kenya when the sultan of Zanzibar ceded the “coastal strip” to Kenya, according to sources.

Taitz told WND that the document came from an anonymous source who doesn’t want his name known because “he’s afraid for his life.”

Taitz’s motion, filed yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, requests the purported evidence of Obama’s birth – both the alleged birth certificate and foreign records not yet obtained – be preserved from destruction, asks for permission to legally request documents from Kenya and seeks a subpoena for deposition from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“I filed the motion with the court asking for expedited discovery, which would allow me to start subpoenas and depositions even before Obama and the government responds,” Taitz told WND. “I am asking the judge to give me the power to subpoena the documents from the Kenyan embassy and to require a deposition from Hillary Clinton so they will be forced to authenticate [the birth certificate].

“I’m forcing the issue, where Obama will have to respond,” she said.

“Before, they said, ‘You don’t have anything backing your claims,'” Taitz explained. “Now I have something. In fact, I have posted on the Internet more than Obama has. My birth certificate actually has signatures.”

Join the petition campaign to demand President Obama resolve the question by revealing his long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate!

Taitz’s most celebrated case involved a military officer, Maj. Stefan Cook, whose order to deploy to Afghanistan was revoked when he challenged Obama’s eligibility to hold office. That case has now been refiled in federal court in Florida, raising the specter of a class-action claim among members of the military that their orders aren’t valid because of questions surrounding Obama’s constitutional eligibility.

Taitz told WND she plans to file additional paperwork with the Florida court tomorrow, adding the alleged Kenyan birth certificate to Maj. Cook’s case.

The suit seeks damages and a declaratory judgment. Named as defendants are Simtech, Cook’s former civilian employer, and several officials, including Col. Louis B. Wingate and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

WND previously reported a judge in Georgia dismissed Cook’s case when the government suddenly revoked his orders to report to Fort Benning for deployment to Afghanistan.

WND reported when the case originally was filed that Cook’s concern was that without proof that there is a legitimate commander in chief, the entire U.S. Army becomes “merely a corps of chattel slaves under the illegitimate control of a private citizen.”

Cook told WND: “As an officer in the armed forces of the United States, it is [my] duty to gain clarification on any order we may believe illegal. With that said, if President Obama is found not to be a ‘natural-born citizen,’ he is not eligible to be commander in chief.”

The new complaint says it seeks Cook’s reinstatement with his civilian employer, Simtech Inc., as well as protection from the Department of Defense and president “from further retaliation for plaintiff’s challenge to the president’s constitutional authority.”

See the movie Obama does not want you to see: Own the DVD that probes this unprecedented presidential eligibility mystery!

WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama’s status as a “natural born citizen.” The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, “No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama’s American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Other challenges have focused on Obama’s citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born.

Complicating the situation is Obama’s decision to spend sums estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid releasing a state birth certificate that would put to rest all of the questions.

WND has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes his kindergarten records, his Punahou school records, his Occidental College records, his Columbia University records, his Columbia thesis, his Harvard Law School records, his Harvard Law Review articles, his scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, his passport, his medical records, his files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records, and his adoption records.

UPDATE:

HAWAII OFFICIALS REFUSE TO CONFIRM OBAMA HAWAII BIRTH

Despite the overbroad and erroneous claims of many news sources, Hawaii officials have NOT confirmed that Obama was born in Hawaii.  Read the 10/31/08 official Hawaii Dept. of Health press release.

Again, at NO time do Hawaii state officials confirm that Obama was actually born in Hawaii.

Compounding the question surrounding Obama’s citizenship status is a subsequent statement of Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo (see Chicago Tribune, 10-31-08). Citing Hawaii state privacy laws, and guidance from the state attorney general, she said she, “was not permitted to confirm the authenticity of the certificate released by the Obama campaign.”

THE LAWSUITS:

Read the Berg lawsuit (currently at the U.S. Supreme Court) Berg’s initial complaint (right-click to download)

Among Berg’s arguments is that if Obama was born in Kenya, U.S. Immigration law in effect in 1961 barred Obama from U.S. citizenship at birth because his father was a Kenyan citizen and his mother, although a U.S. citizen, was not a resident of the U.S. for at least FIVE years following her 14th birthday. Obama’s mother was only 18 at the time of Obama’s birth, and thereby barred – by U.S. Immigration law – from passing U.S. citizenship to her child Obama — even though she was a U.S. citizen.   See page 6 of the legal brief.

Read the Donofrio Supreme Court appeal: Mr. Donofrio’s arguments to the U.S. Supreme Court. (right-click to download). Donofrio’s primary legal argument is that Obama could never be a constitutional “natural born” citizen simply because his father was a legal citizen of another nation, i.e. a foreign national of Kenya, regardless of place of birth. See page 16 of the brief.

BIRTH CERTIFICATE: “Certificate” or “Certification” of Live Birth?

Mr. Obama has only proffered a discredited 2007 computer-generated, unsigned, “Certification of Live Birth” that is suspected of being a forgery.

This “short-form” document is NOT the same as an original vault copy “long form” birth certificate (i.e., a “Certificatenatural born” OR “naturalized” U.S. citizen.

By Article II of the U.S. Constitution, “Naturalized” U.S. citizens, such as California’s Gov. Arnold of Live Birth”) as it does not bear a sworn certification of an attendant physician or contain other vital birth information such as hospital location, mother’s age, etc. which are necessary to verify the full citizenship status of a person, i.e., a ” Schwarzenegger are NOT eligible to hold the Office of President.

Sample Hawaiian original birth “CERTIFICATE”

Obama’s questioned birth “CERTIFICATION

INDONESIAN SCHOOL RECORDS

Obama’s Indonesian school document indicates Obama was a citizen of Indonesia. (original copy and translation shown).   Until 2006, Indonesia did not allow dual citizenship, meaning that because Obama, as a minor, was legally acknowledged as an Indonesian citizen by his parents, he was temporarily stripped of his U.S. citizenship at that time.  Under U.S. Immigration law, Obama could have regained his citizenship as an adult, but only as a “naturalized” citizen, ineligible to hold the Office of President.

SWORN AFFIDAVITS

Read the sworn affidavits of Bishop Ron McRae and Kweli Shuhubia (second affidavit includes partial transcript of an audio recording of Obama’s grandmother stating she attended Obama’s birth in KENYA.)

FACTCHECK.ORG: False claims and undisclosed conflict of interest

FactCheck.org is an arm of the powerful Annenberg Foundation which also runs the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, the entity which employed Barack Obama as its chairman of the board. FactCheck.org conducted an allegedly “independent” analysis of Obama’s 2007 computer-generated birth document (see image link above, on right).

According to the National Review, the Annenberg Challenge was founded by former “Weather Underground” terrorist Bill Ayers, who apparently played a pivotal role in politically positioning Obama to run for public office.  See this National Review article detailing Obama’s relationship to Annenberg and Ayers and its unsuccessful efforts to review the archives of the Annenberg Challenge.

FactCheck is guilty of making the patently false claim that the Hawaii
…Department of Health confirmed Oct. 31 that Obama was born in Honolulu…” See http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html. Hawaii officials have made NO such claim. See specific rebuttal at top of this page.

On the same web page FactCheck also falsely states that, “FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate.”  In truth, the document examined by FactCheck is a 2007 computer-generated document and is obviously not the “original” Obama 1961 birth certificate sought by the Foundation.

These are simply and unequivocally, false statements.

OBAMA BIRTH DOCUMENT:  Forgery

A highly experienced Document Forensics expert, writing under the pseudonym “Polarik” for the safety of his family, recently released his final findings and evidence concluding the birth document proffered by Obama is a forgery.  The detailed analysis examines not only the original graphic released on Obama’s website, but the digital photographs later released by Annenberg’s FactCheck.org on its website as part of its allegedly independent analysis (see above). To WTP’s knowledge, neither FactCheck.org nor Obama have allowed any other party to conduct a direct examination of the document.

Again, it is important to note that Obama’s document is NOT an original, hand-signed “Certificate of Live Birth” but only a computer-generated printout which lacks vital birth information necessary to conclusively establish Obama’s citizenship. Click here to access Polarik’s analysis: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2136816/posts.

Polarik has also released a short YouTube video summarizing his findings:

UPDATE:

Just when you thought there couldn’t be any more players in the ongoing soap opera over the hunt for President Obama’s original birth certificate and his constitutional eligibility for office, there comes yet another name: Elena Kagan.

Yes, the same Elena Kagan nominated by the commander in chief to be the next justice on the U.S. Supreme Court has actually been playing a role for some time in the dispute over whether Obama is legally qualified to be in the White House.

Here’s the connection. Kagan served as solicitor general of the United States from March 2009 until May of this year.

In that role, she legally represented the U.S. government in numerous cases coming before the Supreme Court.

A simple search of the high court’s own website reveals Kagan’s name coming up at least nine times on dockets involving Obama eligibility issues.

Beer Summit Body Language

This picture truly is worth at least a thousand words.

Obama’s revealing body language

I am stunned that the official White House Blog published this picture and that it is in the public domain. The body language is most revealing.

Sergeant Crowley, the sole class act in this trio, helps the handicapped  Professor Gates down the stairs, while Barack Obama, heedless of the infirmities of his friend and fellow victim of self-defined racial profiling, strides ahead on his own. So who is compassionate? And who is so self-involved and arrogant that he is oblivious?

In my own dealings with the wealthy and powerful, I have always found that the way to quickly capture the moral essence of a person is to watch how they treat those who are less powerful. Do they understand that the others are also human beings with feelings? Especially when they think nobody is looking.

Update from Thomas Lifson:

I think this photo constitutes another major Obama blunder.

As some AT commentators point out, this picture becomes a metaphor for ObamaCare. The elderly are left in the back, with only the kindness of the Crowleys of the world, the stand up guys, to depend on. The government has other priorities.

One of the major subtexts of the health care debate involves the public’s fear of indifferent, powerful bureaucrats ruling their lives. It is one thing to wait in line at the DMV to find out which other line you should wait in, in order to begin the process of waiting for multiple bureaucrats to go through the motions of processing your request. I have spent entire afternoons going through this process.

But when we get to health care, waiting often means enduring pain and dysfunction longer than necessary, sometimes a worsening of the condition, and sometimes death.

That’s why I think this image will have genuine resonance. It captures something that older Americans in particular can relate to. The President presses ahead with a program that will tell them to take painkillers instead of getting that artificial hip.

At every stage of the entire Gates affair, Obama has provided a revealing tell. The “acted stupidly” blunder revealed that he automatically blames the police and thinks they really are stupid to begin with. It didn’t trigger a single alarm bell in his mind as he figured out what to say.

Then, the non-apology apology revealed an arrogant man who cannot do what honest people do: admit it when they make a mistake.

Now at stage three, the beer photo op looked OK. It didn’t turn into a disaster.

But then in a small moment that nobody in the White House had the brains to understand, Obama goes and send a body language message like this.
I think he is going to get deeper and deeper into trouble. He is no longer repeating the familiar scripts dreamed up for the campaign. He was a master performer.

But when he goes improv, as a president must do, he lets his true character show. This helps widen the level of doubt that Obama is the same guy a majority voted for.  Those doubts can only grow.

Andrew McCarthy has assembled an overwhelming case that Obama has lied about who he is. I predict that more and more Americans will become open to the argument that they have been had by a sophisticated and ruthless effort to foist a phony on America.
A nice comparison of the character of the two most recent presidents. George Bush with Senator Robert Byrd:

Cap and Trade Closer to Becoming Law

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

coal-mines2-1.jpgYou may have recalled what Obama had promised during his campaign, his Plan to Bankrupt the Coal Industry.  Now, it’s just one step closer to becoming reality.  For anyone in any coal producing state, you should be very concerned with higher unemployment and higher energy costs. For everyone else, look at an additional $750 per year for each tax payer…. so if you’re a household of 2, then your family income just dropped by $1,500.  Keep in mind that China and India will go on ahead and ramp up their CO2 emissions.

So why do you care?  So what, that you’re going to have to pay an extra $750 per year in an energy tax?  So what?!  Well, it goes beyond just paying an energy tax, every single product created in the United States will cost more.  The energy companies have already said they will be passing this new ‘tax’ on to their customers.  Guess what?  Those “customers” are businesses, big and small and residential customers.  So essentially, the energy companies wont be paying more, YOU WILL.  The businesses that produce here in the United States will be seeing a spike in the energy costs and will evenly distribute that as a price increase in the products you buy, so if the Cap and Tax goes through, you will be paying more for everything you buy and use.

The vote was 219-212, a margin of only seven votes. Eight Republicans voted for this unconstitutional mess. While every member of Congress should be thrown out in November 2010 (except Ron Paul and which clearly won’t happen because millions of Americans are drowning in stupidity), these eight should be top of the list:

Mary Bono Mack R (CA); Mike Castle R (DW); Mark Steven Kirk R (IL); Leonard Lance R (NJ); Frank LoBiondo R (NJ); John McHugh R (NY); Dave Reichert R (WA); Chris Smith R (NJ).

The good news?

Arizona is now close to becoming the first state to outlaw climate change legislation. “The state Senate voted Monday, 19-10 to approve a bill banning the Department of Environmental Quality from enacting or enforcing measures with language pertaining to climate change. The bill is now awaiting House approval.” Now that Arizona got rid of their former nit wit governor, Janet Napolitano, sanity is returning. Be sure to call your state legislator and senator and thank them for voting the right way.

Microsoft to Move Jobs Overseas if Obama Tax Plan Goes Through

Tags: , , , , ,

June 3 (Bloomberg) — Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Officer Steven Ballmer said the world’s largest software company would move some employees offshore if Congress enacts President Barack Obama’s plans to impose higher taxes on U.S. companies’ foreign profits.

“It makes U.S. jobs more expensive,” Ballmer said in an interview. “We’re better off taking lots of people and moving them out of the U.S. as opposed to keeping them inside the U.S.”

Obama on May 4 proposed outlawing or restricting about $190 billion in tax breaks for offshore companies over the next decade. Such business groups as the National Foreign Trade Council, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable have denounced the proposed overhaul.

U.S. tax rules let companies defer paying corporate rates as high as 35 percent on most types of foreign profits as long as that money remains invested overseas. Obama says he wants to end such incentives to keep foreign profits tax-deferred so that companies would invest them in the U.S.

Microsoft reported an overall effective tax rate of 26 percent for 2008 in its last annual report. “Our effective tax rates are less than the statutory tax rate due to foreign earnings taxed at lower rates,” the report said.

Barry Bosworth, an economist in Washington at the Brookings Institution research center, said many software companies such as Microsoft have exploited tax and trade rules in the U.S. and other countries to achieve a low overall tax rate.

Ireland Subsidiary

Typically, he said, a company like Microsoft develops a product like Windows in the United States and deducts those costs against U.S. income. It then transfers the technology to a subsidiary in Ireland, where corporate tax rates are lower, without charging licensing fees. The company then assigns its foreign sales to the Irish subsidiary so it doesn’t have to claim the income in the United States.

“What Microsoft wants to do is deduct the cost at a high tax rate and report the profits at a low tax rate,” Bosworth said. “Relative to where they are now, the administration’s proposals are less favorable, so there will be some rebalancing on their part.”

Ballmer is one of 10 U.S. software company executives pushing back against the tax proposals in meetings today with White House officials including Jason Furman, deputy director of the National Economic Council, and the heads of congressional committees such as House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat.

Expense Deductions

Among other things, Obama proposed limiting expense deductions such as those for employee compensation when companies defer U.S. tax on foreign profits.

In a roundtable discussion today, Ballmer, Symantec Corp. Chairman John Thompson and the heads of smaller companies such as privately held Bentley Systems, an Exton, Pennsylvania-based maker of engineering software, said such policies would hurt domestic investment, reduce shareholder value and increase the cost of employing U.S. workers.

Ballmer said that, while the Obama proposals would preserve expense deductions related to research and experimentation costs, the overall deduction limits for companies that defer tax on foreign profits would raise the cost of employing U.S. workers. Fiduciary responsibility to shareholders would require Microsoft to cut costs, he said, meaning many jobs would be moved out of the country.

Worldwide Employees

Microsoft employed 95,029 people worldwide as of April 21, of whom 56,552 were based in the United States, according to the company’s Web site. The company announced it was firing up to 5,000 people in January while hiring some new workers; the company has shed about 1,000 jobs since then, spokesman Lou Gellos said.

Ballmer estimated that higher taxes under the proposal would reduce profits for companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average by between 10 and 15 percentage points.

“It’s just a question of how much will the Dow come down,” Ballmer said. “It’s not about companies anyway; we’re talking about shareholders.”

In addition to limiting current deductions for companies that defer U.S. tax on their foreign profits, Obama proposed altering a set of rules known as “check the box” that allow companies to shelter foreign profits in offshore subsidiaries that can be disregarded for U.S. tax purposes.

Duck Liabilities

While the rules were designed in 1997 to protect U.S. companies from paying excessive tax to other governments, Obama administration officials say it has evolved into a way to duck U.S. liabilities. Altering the rule, which Obama dubbed a “loophole,” would generate $86.5 billion in new revenue by 2019, the administration says.

The third international tax proposal would change rules governing how companies can claim tax credits for levies paid to foreign governments. Officials say some companies abuse the rule to accelerate tax credits before they could otherwise be claimed.

Obama has said his proposals would protect or create jobs in the United States.

Thompson of Symantec, the Cupertino, California-based maker of Norton anti-virus software and similar tools, said software companies are frustrated by being called tax cheats and compared with companies that moved their headquarters to low-tax countries such as Bermuda.

‘Counterintuitive’

Thompson called the Obama proposals “counterintuitive” to the administration’s other stated goals of fostering an innovation-oriented economy.

“It is a little bit ironic that most of our most significant trading partners and partners globally have taken the tack that they’ll reduce corporate tax rates to stimulate economic growth and not raise corporate tax rates,” Thompson said.

The roundtable was organized for Bloomberg News by the Business Software Alliance, a Washington trade group coordinating the executives’ meetings with policymakers.

Obama Resurects the Death Tax to 55%

Tags: ,

Obama’s budget quietly resurrects the Death Tax in 2010.  The President’s budget calls for the largest increase in the death tax in U.S. history!

The announcement of this tax increase is buried in footnote 1 on page 127 of the President’s budget. That note reads: “The estate tax is maintained at its 2009 parameters.” This means the death tax won’t fall to zero next year as scheduled under current law, but estates will be taxed instead at up to 45%, with an exemption level of $3.5 million (or $7 million for a couple). Better not plan on dying next year after all.

This controversy dates back to George W. Bush’s first tax cut in 2001 that phased down the estate tax from 55% to 45% this year and then to zero next year. Although that 10-year tax law was to expire in 2011, meaning that the death tax rate would go all the way back to 55%, the political expectation was that once the estate tax was gone for even one year, it would never return.

And that is no doubt why the Obama Administration wants to make sure it never hits zero. It doesn’t seem to matter that the vast majority of the money in an estate was already taxed when the money was earned. Liberals counter that the estate tax is “fair” because it is only paid by the richest 2% of American families. This ignores that much of the long-term saving and small business investment in America is motivated by the ability to pass on wealth to the next generation.

The importance of intergenerational wealth transfers was first measured in a National Bureau of Economic Research study in 1980. That study looked at wealth and savings over the first three-quarters of the 20th century and found that “intergenerational transfers account for the vast majority of aggregate U.S. capital formation.” The co-author of that study was . . . Lawrence Summers.

Many economists had previously believed in “the life-cycle theory” of savings, which postulates that workers are motivated to save with a goal of spending it down to zero in retirement. Mr. Summers and coauthor Laurence Kotlikoff showed that patterns of savings don’t validate that model; they found that between 41% and 66% of capital stock was transferred either by bequests at death or through trusts and lifetime gifts. A major motivation for saving and building businesses is to pass assets on so children and grandchildren have a better life.

What all this means is that the higher the estate tax, the lower the incentive to reinvest in family businesses. Former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holtz-Eakin recently used the Summers study as a springboard to compare the economic cost of a 45% estate tax versus a zero rate. He finds that the long-term impact of eliminating the death tax would be to increase small business capital investment by $1.6 trillion. This additional investment would create 1.5 million new jobs.

In other words, by raising the estate tax in the name of fairness, Mr. Obama won’t merely bring back from the dead one of the most despised of all federal taxes, and not merely splinter many family-owned enterprises. He will also forfeit half the jobs he hopes to gain from his $787 billion stimulus bill. Maybe that’s why the news of this unwise tax increase was hidden in a footnote.

White House Press Kit: Britain ‘slightly smaller than Oregon’

Tags: , , ,

Toby Harnden – Telegraph.co.uk

So here’s what the White House is telling American reporters – and by extension the American people – about Britain. It’s laid out in an inch-thick “press kit”, with the Seal of the President of the United States emblazoned on the cover, handed out to each of us on board the White House press charter en route from Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington to Stansted.

The United Kingdom, we are told, is “slightly smaller than Oregon”. As for the the British climate, it is “generally mild and temperate” and “subject to frequent changes but few extremes of temperature”. A “group of islands close to continental Europe”, Britain has been “subject to many invasions and migrations”.

We’re taken through the Roman invasion (“brought more active contacts with the rest of Europe”), the Norman invasion (led to “active involvement in European affairs…for several hundred years”) and various travails with the Welsh, Scots and Irish before the British empire reached its zenith in Victorian times.

Then it all started to go wrong. “The losses and destruction of World War I, the depression of the 1930s, and decades of relatively slow growth eroded the United Kingdom’s preeminent international position of the previous century”.

Those fretting about the demise of the term “special relationship” might not be reassured by this briefing book. There’s talk of a “strong bilateral relationship”, of the UK being “one of the United States’ closest allies” and of “close coordination” and “bilateral cooperation” between two countries who “continually consult on foreign policy”. Everything except “special”.

After the country sections, we’re introduced the personalities, with information mainly culled from their websites. Queen Elizabeth “enrolled as a girl Guide when she was eleven, and later became a Sea Ranger”, we are informed. During the war she “put on pantomimes with the children of members of staff for the enjoyment of her family and employees of the Royal Household”.

Gordon Brown’s entry reads a little like one of those awful Christmas round robins. Young Gordon, we are told repeatedly, was very, very clever. He “did well a school from an early age” and then “excelled at sport and joined in every aspect of school life, quickly becoming popular”.

He “took his exams a year ahead of his contemporaries” and “went on to University at the age of 15”, where he edited the student newspaper “in a prize-winning year” and won “a First Class Honours degree and a number of prizes for his studies”.

David Cameron seems to be auditioning for the role of British Barack in advance of his big meeting with the President tomorrow (in the Yellow Room at Winfield House), stating he was elected Conservative leader with a “mandate to change the party and change the country” and “believes there is urgent need for change”.

Since her presidential bid, Hillary Clinton, now Secretary of State, has scaled down her claims of being “instrumental” in bringing peace to Northern Ireland. All we get on the Emerald Isle is a modest: “With Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, Secretary Clinton worked to launch the government’s Vital Voices Democracy Initiative.”

The former New York senator skips quickly over her defeat in the battle for the Democratic nomination. “In 2006, Senator Clinton won reelection to the Senate, and in 2007 she began her historic campaign for president,” her biography reads. “In 2008, she campaigned for the election of Barack Obama and Joe Biden.”

For those who might bristle at the “slightly smaller than Oregon” description of Britain (which seems to originate from the CIA World Factbook), US geographical comparisons are also included in the other country profiles prepared by the State Department’s  Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.

Germany – a “reliable US ally” since 9/11 – is “about the size of Montana” while the Czech Republic “about the size of Virginia”.

We are informed that France is “America’s oldest ally” and was “instrumental in helping Britain’s American colonies establish independence” and more recently has been “a close partner with the US in the war on terror”.

It is the largest country in Europe. But only “about four-fifths the size of Texas”.

Oregon, by the way, has a population of 3.7 million while the population of the UK is more than 60 million.

Obama’s Exceptions to Promises

Tags: , , , ,

From the start, Obama made exceptions to his no-lobbyist rule. And now, embarrassing details about Cabinet-nominee Tom Daschle’s tax problems and big paychecks from special interest groups are raising new questions about the reach and sweep of the new president’s promised reforms.

Tom Daschle withdrew Tuesday as President Barack Obama’s nominee to be health and human services secretary, dealing potential blows to both speedy health care reform and Obama’s hopes for a smooth start in the White House.

In a written statement accepting “with sadness and regret” Daschle’s surprise request to be removed from consideration. A day earlier, Obama had said he “absolutely” stood by Daschle in the face of problems over back taxes and potential conflicts of interest.

Daschle, the former Senate Democratic leader and a strong backer of Obama’s presidential bid, said he would have been unable to operate “with the full faith of Congress and the American people.”

“I am not that leader, and will not be a distraction” to Obama’s agenda, he said.
Asked repeatedly whether the White House sought Daschle’s withdrawal, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Daschle himself decided to remove his name from nomination. Daschle “did not get a signal” from the White House to step aside, Gibbs said.

Obama had given Daschle two jobs — to be White House health czar on top of the post leading the Health and Human Services Department — and Daschle is relinquishing the czar post too. The developments called into question whether Obama will be able to move as quickly as he has promised on sweeping health care reform — one of the pillars of his first 100 days agenda.

Obama Prayer Leader Linked to Hamas

Tags: , , , , , ,

Ingrid Mattson, president of the Islamic Society of North America, is one of many religious leaders scheduled to speak at the prayer service at Washington’s National Cathedral.

Mattson has been the guest of honor at State Department dinners and has met with senior Pentagon officials during the Bush administration. She also spoke at a prayer service at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

But in 2007 and as recently as last July, federal prosecutors in Dallas filed court documents linking the Hartford, Conn.-based Islamic society to the group Hamas, which the U.S. considers a terrorist organization.

Neither Mattson nor her organization have been charged. But prosecutors wrote in July that they had “a wide array of testimonial and documentary evidence expressly linking” the group to Hamas and other radical groups.

Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for Obama’s inaugural committee, would not discuss the case or say whether the committee knew about it.

“She has a stellar reputation in the faith community,” Douglass said Saturday night.

The existence of the court documents was first reported by Politico.

The Islamic Society of North America, which describes itself as “the nation’s largest mainstream Muslim community-based organization,” is fighting its inclusion on a list of coconspirators in the Dallas terrorism case against the Holy Land Foundation. In court documents, the group says it does not condone terrorism.

UPDATED: Obama’s Plan to Bankrupt the Coal Industry

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

coal-mines2

Coal miner takes a break after a long day of work.

UPDATE:  Newt Gingrich Chimes in and Discusses Cap & Trade Issues

Nov 6th, 2008

Mike Carey, president of the Ohio Coal Association, issued a devastating response to the Obama audiotape today . He states:

”Regardless of the timing or method of the release of these remarks, the message from the Democratic candidate for President could not be clearer: the Obama-Biden ticket spells disaster for America’s coal industry and the tens of thousands of Americans who work in it.”

”These undisputed, audio-taped remarks, which include comments from Senator Obama like ‘I haven’t been some coal booster’ and ‘if they want to build [coal plants], they can, but it will bankrupt them’ are extraordinarily misguided.” It’s evident that this campaign has been pandering in states like Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana and Pennsylvania to attempt to generate votes from coal supporters, while keeping his true agenda hidden from the state’s voters.

”Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation’s coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to ‘bankrupt’ our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.”

“If somebody wants to build a coal power plant they can, it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted,” Barack Obama said to the San Francisco Chronicle in January.

So the real question is, why did the San Francisco Chronicle sit on this until recently. They may have put it online, but this should have been front page material early in the primary, not today. Instead they put it there and didn’t tell anyone about it.  If McCain had said anything like this the elite media would have had a field day with it. This little tactic of posting explosive or important information with as little notice as posible is called ”burying the lead”. It is one of the most often used forms of media bias.

This is the man who will get energy prices down?

Obama: Under my plan electricity prices will skyrocket

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

Both Barack Obama and Joe Biden have views about coal which should concern all Americans but which represent very substantial danger to several states, at least a few of which (Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Colorado) are critical in this week’s election.

Obama’s view represents a serious threat and one which should cause all but the most partisan Democrats to reconsider any thought they might have had for voting for a president who clearly opposes capitalism and now clearly opposes affordable electricity.

Colorado is the nation’s 7th largest producer of coal and is rich in low-sulfur low-ash clean coal. Coal-fired power plants account for 72% of Colorado’s electric generation, according to 2007 statistics from the Colorado Mining Association.

A few more important statistics:

Image description Colorado’s coal industry directly employs nearly 2,300 people at an average salary and benefits package of over $100,000, for total industry payroll and benefits of $228 million within the state. Colorado’s current coal industry employment is its highest in two decades, with the state having one of the country’s most efficient production rates.

The industry paid nearly $140 million more in taxes and royalties in 2007, for a total contribution to the coffers of citizens and government of over $356,000,000. The CMA notes that “more than half of Colorado’s share of federal mining royalties is paid to the state school fund and local school districts.”

And now we hear Barack Obama saying “If someone wants to build a coal-fired plant they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.”

Does he not realize that fully half of the nation’s electric power generation comes from coal-fired plants?

Share of Electric Power Sector Net Generation by Energy Source, 2005 vs. 2006?(Percent):

image
Source: Energy Information Administration, Form EIA-906, “Power Plant Report.”

Â

Does he not realize that the industry directly employs over 80,000 people in America , not to mention the massive indirect employment created for people who build and sell mining equipment or who own business in towns which are supported by spending from mine employees?

Coal is also a very fast-growing export, with the Department of Energy reporting that coal exports jumped almost 50% in the 2nd quarter of 2008 to 23 million short tons. “The US hasn’t exported anywhere near this amount since 1996.”

Obama’s running mate Joe Biden also said he opposes building any coal-fired power plants in America , including clean coal plants.

But this isn’t just a big issue for Colorado. It’s also a big issue for other major coal-producing states, at least two of which, Ohio and Pennsylvania, may play a crucial role in Tuesday’s election.

According to the American Coal Foundation there are more than 3,000 coal miners in Ohio , with “combined direct and indirect contributions of the coal industry to Ohio’s economy of more than $8 billion.”
Pennsylvania employs more than 9,300 miners in over 300 mining locations, directly and indirectly contributing more than $10 billion to the state’s economy.

Barack and Obama dislike any source of energy which actually produces an important quantity of power for Americans. They hate oil, coal, and nuclear power, and are ambivalent at best about natural gas. What do they like? Wind farms and solar power which are pleasant “green” things to think about but which are far from being able to produce less than 1% of the nation’s energy combined and much of that in relatively inefficient small generation rather than the huge generating potential of traditionally-powered electrical plants.

The Department of Energy says that “coal-fired plants typically are more economical, and they account for 40 percent of (projected) total capacity additions from 2006 to 2030.” In other words, coal is not just cheaper now, it is expected to remain the most economical source of electric power for the nation for a generation or more and therefore shows nearly as large a projected gain in percentage terms as renewables and a massive gain in absolute terms compared to any other source in the DOE’s projected energy generation in 2030 as compared to 2006.

Image description Indeed, even with all the hype about renewables changing the world, they are still expected to produce less power – with all renewable forms, including hydroelectric, combined – than either nuclear or natural gas powered electric plants generate today. And each of those is far less than half of the power generated by coal. If you take out conventional hydropower from the renewables category (since almost all the growth in the category is outside hydro), the power generated by the combination of wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal power generating systems will, in 2030, represent barely half of what either nuclear or natural gas generate today, and not even 1/8th of what coal will generate for the nation in 2030.

Unless Obama and Biden get their way, in which case I submit it is not possible for renewables to make up for the loss in power generation which the Democrats’ anti-energy platform, in service of their radical environmentalist donors, will cause.

With the recent economic crisis, people have temporarily forgotten about the recent spike in energy prices and what can happen if we do not ensure the most flexibility possible and most domestic production possible to generate America’s energy needs.

It is an interesting coincidence that Obama’s statement about wanting to bankrupt coal-fired power plants represents a grave threat to at least three of the most important states in this week’s election. But it represents more than that: It represents a threat to anyone, anywhere in America, who uses electricity. If you happen to fall into that category, Obama/Biden represent an almost certain increase in your cost of living, your cost of heating, of driving, of cooking, of absolutely anything that you can’t power by burning your own trees…and I’m sure they’ll try to stop that too.

Perhaps Now, We Will Never Know….

Only a few years ago, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, writing to uphold affirmative action policies at the University of Michigan, speculated that the time would be ripe to reconsider racial preference policies in thirty years, after the nation has had more time to progress.

Thirty years came quickly.

The nation has moved beyond what was. We congratulate President-elect Obama on a well fought battle won well.

We also thank Senator McCain and urge Governor Palin to stay involved and engaged.

Black Panthers Intimidating Voters in PA

Tags: , , , , ,

Already today, we’ve seen multiple instances of Black Panthers and wanna-be Black Panthers intimidating people (especially little old ladies) from voting in Pennsylvania to Tennessee.

This hasn’t been limited to a single polling location, nor apparently a single state. The video below shows the nightstick-wielding man from the FOX news report, and there have been reports of Black Panther wannabes intimidating voters from as far away as Tennessee.

Is this what Sen. Obama was referring to when he boasted of a civilian homeland defense force during his campaign?

FOX News is reporting that two men dressed in Black Panther attire were blocking the entrance to a Pennsylvania polling location this morning, with one brandishing a nightstick. Poll watchers inside the building had reportedly been told not to let anybody in because “the black man is going to win no matter what.

A Republican volunteer called the police, who removed the man with the nightstick. When FOX News arrived, the remaining man in Black Panther garb, who is reportedly an authorized poll watcher, accused FNC of intimidating voters, according to reporter Rick Leventhal, “because we were here with a camera and microphone.”

Police used to be stationed at polling locations to prevent intimidation and fraud; however, as John Fund mentioned in today’s Wall Street Journal , the all-caring Government (with assistance from left-wing advocacy groups) has since seen to it that police no longer appear at the polls because they “are now viewed as intimidating.”

Black Panthers though? They’re not intimidating at all .

Election Journal has posted additional video of the Black Panthers providing ‘security’ at a Philadelphia polling place. This shows the police arriving and escorting ‘security’ away from the polling station:

Is Bloomberg Polling or Palling?

Tags: , , ,

by Jonas S. Lieberman

Why is the company owned by Jewish Mayor Bloomberg of NYC (Owner of Bloomberg radio & media) participating in “Election Polling” together with the LA Times? To me & Sarah Palin this would be referred to as “PALLING” together. This is the newspaper that is withholding the Rashid Khalidi video tape of Barack Hussein Obama. The LA Times is withholding information from the public that could affect the outcome of Tuesdays presidential election. This is the tape that may provide what Obama was saying & doing at a Jew hating, Israel spew hating party with un-repentant terrorist Ayers & Dorn & former terrorist PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi. This  tape  has exactly one day to surface and has Obama so scared because it may change the face of this presidential election. Obama and his Chicago style political muscle have allegedly threatened the LA Times into withholding the video.

Mayor Bloomberg has found himself in an embarrassing  quandary, caught up as a Jew and as a Democrat. This relationship of his company and the LA Times has been ongoing for over 18 months and effectually could lose him the Jewish vote and consequently the election as a third term Mayor for NYC. Why was this association not important until now? Because the Rashid Khalidi video tape was not a hot topic of discussion until recently and Mayor Bloomberg just had the city council approve a third term run just the other week. The terms have changed.

What is more important to Mayor Bloomberg? His third term  as Mayor of NYC or the presidential election of Obama? A difficult dilemma indeed.

Not sure why we posted this in the Humor category, it’s quite sad actually…

Hotair.com: The global-poverty initiative may come a surprise even for people who have paid attention to the race.  Accuracy in Media covered it in February, when Democrats tried to move it out of committee:

A nice-sounding bill called the ”Global Poverty Act,” sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.

Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama’s ”Global Poverty Act” (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

The bill, which is item number four on the committee’s business meeting agenda, passed the House by a voice vote last year because most members didn’t realize what was in it. Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require. According to the website of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, no hearings have been held on the Obama bill in that body.

That’s the origin of the $845 billion figure. We spend about $3 trillion a year already on the entire federal budget, and that will add another $70 billion of funding for other governments on our already-bloated government. Most Americans figure we spend too much as it is — and that’s on ourselves.

Obama Bombshell ‘Redistribution of Wealth’ Audio Uncovered

Tags: , , , , , ,

Listen to this 2001 interview in which Sen. Obama is clear that he supports ”redistributive change” and that one of the tragedies of the Warren Court was that it didn’t do more to help redistribute the nation’s wealth.

In a 2001 Interview, Barack Obama is quoted as saying ”it’s a tragedy that ‘redistribution of wealth’ not pursued by supreme court”.  What will he have in store for his presidency if if does become president of the United States?  Will we become the USSA (United Socialist States of America)?

In this audio clip below, you can hear for yourself what a Obama / Biden presidency would be like:

401(k) Plans and Private Pensions Seized Under Obama?

Tags: , , , , , , ,

Sounds like Socialism will be on the rise if Obama becomes President of the United States.   Will Obama and the Dems in congress allow the seizure of 401(k) plans and private pension funds in the name of ”protecting workers’ retirement accounts”?

It appears that some Democrats on the Hill might try to kill 401(k) plans.

From usnews.com :

House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created ” guaranteed retirement accounts” for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since ” the savings rate isn’t going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that’s not generating what we now say it should.”

A few respectful observations:

1) McDermott is right when he says the savings rate isn’t going up. But the savings rate doesn’t include gains to money you invest in the stock market. It ignores the buildup of net worth. (If you bought a share of XYZ Corp. in January at $100, for instance, and its value doubled by December, the savings rate measure would still value that investment at $100. In short, the savings rate is a phony number.)

2) So based partly on the above faulty logic, the $4.5 trillion, as of the start of the year, invested in 401(k) plans doesn’t count as savings.

3) Ghilarducci would have workers abandon the stock market right at the bottom of the market. A stupid idea, according to Warren Buffett: I don’t like to opine on the stock market, and again I emphasize that I have no idea what the market will do in the short term. Nevertheless, I’ll follow the lead of a restaurant that opened in an empty bank building and then advertised: ‘Put your mouth where your money was.’ Today my money and my mouth both say equities.

4) Ghilarducci would offer a lousy 3 percent return. The long-run return of the stock market, adjusted for inflation, is more like 7 percent. Look at it this way: Ten thousand dollars growing at 3 percent a year for 40 years leaves you with roughly $22,000. But $10,000 growing at 7 percent a year for 40 years leaves you with $150,000. That is a high price to pay for what Ghilarducci describes as the removal of a source of financial anxiety and…fruitless discussions with brokers and financial sales agents, who are also desperate for more fees and are often wrong about markets.” Please, I’ll take a bit of worry for an additional $128,000.

5) What effect would this plan have on an already battered stock market? Well, I would imagine it would send it even lower, sticking a shiv into the portfolios of everyone who didn’t jump aboard. But I am sure the Chinese would love to jump in and buy all our cheap stocks to fund the retirement of their citizens.

Bottom line: If you believe in the long-run dynamism of the American economy, then you have to believe in the stock market. Listen to superinvestor Buffett, not the prof from the New School.

Obama’s Muslim Coordinator Negotiates with Extremists

Tags: , , , ,

Barack Obama’s newly appointed Muslim outreach adviser is coming under fire for meeting with Islamic groups with extremist views, just two months after her predecessor resigned over links to a radical cleric.

Minha Husaini met with members of several Islamic organizations in Virginia on September 15 — including some that terrorism experts say have ties to Hamas and the radical Muslim Brotherhood.

Among the attendees were senior members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which was listed by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-related trial.

Several people connected to CAIR have been convicted of felonies — including on terrorism-related charges.

But critics say CAIR has a long history of masquerading as a moderate Islamic group.

”These groups, even if they themselves are not active terrorist organizations, do subscribe to large amounts of the ideology that fuels the terrorism that we are being confronted with,” said Andrew McCarthy, former Assistant U.S. Attorney.

Awad, who was at the September meeting with Husaini, recently attended a dinner with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Also present at the Sept. 15 meeting was Mahdi Bray, who has publicly announced his support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Bray, the executive director of the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation, raised his fist in the air during a rally in Washington in October 2000 to demonstrate his support for the terror groups.

The Obama campaign’s previous Muslim outreach advisor, Mazen Asbahi — who stepped down in August following reports he was linked to a radical imam — also attended the meeting.
