RADIO SILENCE: Spanish Nets Avoid Coverage of Jorge Masvidal’s Strong Pro-Trump Stance

Posted on 15 October 2020

Our nation's Spanish-language media absolutely LOVE running political hot takes from Latino celebrities and athletes, so long as they fall in line and endorse liberal candidates and causes. And if those celebrities should be conservative, or God forbid, express support for President Donald Trump? More often than not, they get radio silence. In the case of UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal, this is the side of the political conversation that the Spanish-language networks don’t want their viewers to hear, and which we’ve subtitled into Spanish for their own benefit:     JORGE MASVIDAL: I’m gonna let you in on something. The Democrats just think that they’re entitled to the Latino vote. They think that we just have to hand it over to them. That’s right. We sure as hell don’t.  Así mismo. Así mismo. They gotta show us what they can do for us, what they can do for our communities. We’re not gonna buy the same wolf tickets and false promises that destroyed great countries like Venezuela and Cuba – it’s not gonna happen. You know what else is not gonna work for them? Playing ‘Despacito’ on your phone to pander to us – hell no. You gotta give us some credit for having heads on our shoulders. I’m gonna wrap this up with some words of Barack Obama. He said elections have consequences. That is true, and those words have never been more true than they are today. We either re-elect President Trump and keep America great… amen... or we let Joe Biden destroy the greatest country the world has ever seen. Now I’m a professional athlete and I’ve been one for most of my life, so I’ve always seen things through a sports lens. That makes Donald Trump our head coach, and before the global pandemic we were winning Super Bowls. And when you’re winning Super Bowls, you don’t fire the coach. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the plays he runs, the players he puts on the field, or what he says on Twitter. You sure as hell don’t replace him for another coach that’s been in the business for 47 years at every level and never won a fucking game. Celebrities usually get top billing from the nation’s Spanish-language media when it comes time to spit out a hot political take, so long as that take is liberal. Actors, musicians, has-beens, you name it. It doesn’t matter. They’re good for at least five minutes if they’re there to say that the Orange Man is Bad. Univision has gone so far as to give a platform and a record deal to a terror apologist who couldn’t even bring himself to say that Venezuela was a dictatorship when asked. But these very networks now have compunction over showcasing an only-in-America kind of story- the son of a Cuban refugee who went from street fighting to becoming an elite mixed martial artist- because his political views are inconvenient to the networks’ broader narrative. If Masvidal were liberal, rest assured- he, too, would have top billing on Univision and Telemundo. Click here to read Media Research Founder and President L. Brent Bozell III's letter to the FCC, in strong opposition to a proposed rule change that would allow Univision to fall under 100% foreign ownership.
