Orwellian: Dictionary Changes Definition of ‘Sexual Preference’ To Smear ACB

Posted on 14 October 2020

The left is all about changing the rules of the game when their play is less than quality. They need to change the rules of the Presidential Debate so that Biden can skate by, they need to add more members to SCOTUS so they can rule their way, AND they need to change the definition of words in order to malign SCOTUS nom Amy Coney Barrett because her professional and personal record is too squeaky clean for substantial criticism. On Tuesday evening, coincidentally the same day that the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee tried to lambast Amy Coney Barrett for using the suddenly politically incorrect phrase “sexual preference,” Webster (the dictionary people) went in and changed the definition of “preference” to reflect that it is now an “offensive” term. Aren’t the Democrats glad they have our cultural institutions as their personal fixers? During day two of the confirmation hearing for Barrett, the judge used the phrase “sexual preference” in regards to the 2015 Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges: the court decision that allowed for the legalization of same-sex marriage. Of course, Normal people wouldn’t give the phrase a second thought. But the office of Senator Hirono (D-HI) must have gotten some irate calls from habitually irate constituents, because she made hay of the statement.  “Not once but twice did you use the term ‘sexual preference’ to describe those in the LGBTQ community,” Hirono began, adding, “and let me be clear, ‘sexual preference’ is an offensive and outdated term.” Hirono added that Barrett should have used “sexual orientation.” Wait a minute, preference is offensive and outdated? Since when? Since that same evening apparently.  Former CNN contributor and current Megyn Kelly Show podcast producer Steve Krakauer did some research on dictionary entries for the word “preference” and made a startling discovery within Webster’s definition database. As of October 13, 2020, the term “preference” has a fifth definition clarifying it as “offensive” terminology when referring to LGBTQ people. “As recently as last month, Webster’s Dictionary included a definition of ‘preference’ as ‘orientation’ or ‘sexual preference.’ TODAY they changed it and added the word ‘offensive,’” Krakauer tweeted. He also provided photo evidence of the definition prior to October 13 and the new definition. In the previous definition, “preference” was literally defined as “ORIENTATION” when used to describe sexualities. In the version updated after Coney Barrett’s faux pas, “preference’s “ NEW 5th definition updated to say that the term is “offensive” when used to describe sexualities. Seriously, you cannot make this stuff up. Was somebody at Webster watching the hearings and started imagining the gaystapo pounding on the door? Or was it just out of sympathy for those pursuing the outrage du jour? Either way, one more institution -- one charged with cataloging the meanings of the very language we use -- has shown itself as corrupt.  As one notoriously-addled presidential candidate would say, “Come on, man!”  Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro summed up the incident when he tweeted, “Instantaneously retconning the dictionary to meet with woke diktats is a little on the nose, cultural fascists.” To win, the left will go so far as to bend reality at the snap of a finger. Conservatives now need to find a way to handle that.
