Morning Joe: Those Pro-Trump Rubes Believe Hunter Biden Stories — We Know Better

Posted on 22 October 2020

If you want to understand the depths of the liberal media's condescending disdain for Americans voting for President Trump, it would have been instructive, if emetic, to watch the opening segment of today's Morning Joe. It was one, long, condescension to Trump voters.  It began with Jon Meacham (who spoke at the Democrat convention) claiming that, contrary to what Trump backers believe, Biden is actually "mainstream" and "centrist." This despite Biden himself bragging that the he'd be the most progressive president in American history. You calling Biden a liar, Jon? Then, after Joe Scarborough solemnly proclaimed that the race is between "a good man [dramatic pause], and a bad man," he described the reasons that his friends and families give for supporting Trump, although they all stipulate that Trump is a terrible man. Scarborough literally laughed in derision in saying: My favorite: Joe Biden is not all mentally there. [Laughs uproariously] I mean, have they seen Donald Trump over the last four years? The most condescending of all, surprisingly and disappointingly, was Willie Geist. After Meacham suggested that Trump supporters are like those who wanted "the America of Bull Connor," and lamented that he couldn't understand how people could support Trump, Geist sought to explain. He portrayed Trump voters as sheep who have "been led" to believe things that aren't true. "You have to add into this conversation as well the information filters: where people are getting their information--certain cable news channels, certain websites, from Facebook. If you watch Donald Trump’s speech, and you get all your information from those places, it all makes sense. The Hunter Biden story makes sense. Everything that Donald Trump is telling you is fitting into a narrative that you’ve been led to believe is true. If you watch it from where a lot of other people like us are sitting, it’s factually untrue. " Ah yes. If only the rubes could see things from the Olympian heights from which we demigods of the liberal media gaze down upon the little people, they would understand, as we do, that all that stuff about the Biden Crime Family is "factually untrue." Morning Joe's insufferable condescension to Trump voters was brought to you in part by USAA, Chevrolet, Ninja Foodi, and Sleep Number. Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 10/22/20 6:21 am EDT JON MEACHAM: I was totally struck by -- it went around on the social media yesterday -- the video of Joe Biden greeting the special needs son of a victim of the Parkland shooting. Mika, you sent it out too. MIKA BRZEZINSKI: [sighs] Yeah. MEACHAM: Watch that, and just answer a fundamental question. Watch that and then watch Donald Trump dismissing COVID, COVID, COVID as we hit 225,000 deaths. And you tell me who do you want in charge of your affairs? JOE SCARBOROUGH: Yeah. MIKA: Really — SCARBOROUGH: I actually saw the video, and it’s interesting, you can look at that video and I think most Americans would agree that this election is between a good man [dramatic pause], and a bad man. MIKA: Yeah. SCARBOROUGH: And I — I feel comfortable saying that Donald Trump is a bad man, Jon Meacham, because like you, I live in a very, very red area. You and I, 90% of the people that we see every day, are voting for Donald Trump . . . And I have been politely and lovingly talking to my friends and my neighbors and my relatives and my loved ones, asking why and they all say: Donald Trump is a terrible man . . . But — then they start explaining their justification for a vote for this terrible man . . . My favorite: Joe Biden is not all mentally there [laughs uproariously]. I mean, have they seen Donald Trump over the last four years? . . .  MEACHAM: Do you want to be the America of John Lewis, or do you want to be the America of Bull Connor? And those — I know which side of history I want to be on and I think it’s just as blunt a choice, just as sharp a choice today . . . That’s what’s troubling, is why — why can’t enough of us assess the evidence, and answer with a full heart, as opposed to worries about our identity and our wallet? WILLIE GEIST: It’s well said, and you have to add into this conversation as well the information filters: where people are getting their information--certain cable news channels, certain websites, from Facebook.  If you watch Donald Trump’s speech, and you get all your information from those places, it all makes sense. The Hunter Biden story makes sense. Everything that Donald Trump is telling you is fitting into a narrative that you’ve been led to believe is true.
