SHOCKER: Majority of Americans Are NOT in Favor of Reparations

Posted on 26 July 2019

The majority of American voters oppose reparations because they believe that descendants of slaves “harms have been been adequately compensated.”

The Hill-HarrisX poll found that 56 percent of registered voters do not favor reparations, while only 20 percent do. The other 24 percent said they were “unsure.”

According to the report, the issue was also highly partisan as “eighty-one percent of Republicans opposed reparations, compared to 36 percent of Democrats. More than half of Independents — 57 percent — meanwhile said the same.”

“When broken by race, the poll showed that 55 percent of black voters support some form of compensatory payment, compared to only 11 percent of white voters,” the Hill reports.

The poll additionally found that opposition to reparations increased along with the age of the person they were asking. For example, 69 percent of Americans over 65 disagree with reparations.

The issue of reparations has been a hot topic in the Democratic Presidential Primary as candidates seek to prove how “woke” they are among an increasingly far-left base.

Sens. Corey Booker, Kamala Harris, Kirsten GillibrandElizabeth WarrenBernie Sanders, and Amy Klobuchar have all expressed support for reparations. Booker introduced a bill earlier this year to study the concept, which all of those candidates have cosponsored.
