La. Dem Chairwoman on ObamaCare Opponents: ‘It’s about race’

Posted on 31 May 2013

What is it with state Democratic Party chairpersons these days?

South Carolina Chairman Dick Harpootlian, whose term just recently ended, has hurled repeated tasteless insults at Palmetto State Governor Nikki Haley, who is of Indian heritage. His final parting shot: Haley needs to be sent “back to wherever the hell she came from.” Louisiana’s Democratic Party chairwoman joined in the “fun” earlier this week on the floor of the state’s Senate (HT Campaign Spot; bolds are mine):

AP’s Meme on Job Growth Ignores April Dive in Total Hours Worked

Posted on 31 May 2013

One particular sentence has recently become a virtua meme at the Associated Press, aka the Administration’s Press.

Its latest appearance is at Christopher Rugaber’s report this afternoon on April’s seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent drop in consumer spending. Rugaber, who infamously wrote “Gone are the fears that the economy could fall into another recession” in early April, perhaps betraying a bit of nervousness, called today’s news “a sign that economic growth may be slowing.” Deeper into his dispatch, he rolled out the meme:

CBS Boosts Oprah’s ‘Remarkable’ Pro-Gun Control Speech at Harvard

Posted on 31 May 2013

Friday’s CBS This Morning touted Oprah Winfrey’s recent Harvard commencement speech, airing over a minute of half of footage from the former daytime TV host’s address. The morning newscast spotlighted how Winfrey took the opportunity to promote two liberal pet causes: gun control and “a clear path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants.

The show’s three anchors all sang the billionaire’s praises. Charlie Rose gushed over Winfrey’s “remarkable speech“. Norah O’Donnell trumpeted the TV star’s “important message“. Gayle King, who is Oprah’s longtime friend, marveled over the address: “She did a great job yesterday.” The three hosts didn’t once mention King’s close connection to Winfrey [audio clips available here; video below the jump].

WashPost’s Robert Kaiser Fawns Over ‘Extraordinary’ Barney Frank and Chris Dodd

Posted on 31 May 2013

It was only two days ago that one of Charlie Rose’s guests, Politico’s Jim VandeHei, celebrated the disappearance of many outspoken Republicans from the political scene. On last night’s show, Rose invited on a pair of brash Democrats who vanished from Congress recently: former Sen. Chris Dodd and former Rep. Barney Frank.

The former lawmakers were there to discuss the 2010 financial regulatory reform law that bears their names. Rose’s third guest, Robert Kaiser of The Washington Post, recently wrote a book about the Dodd-Frank Act’s journey from conception to passage. Wouldn’t you know it, Kaiser was there to sing the praises of the Democrats appearing on the program, hailing the Dodd-Frank Act as a sort of congressional triumph over partisan politics. [Video below. MP3 audio here.]

Armed Youth Captured Aboard School Bus

guilty child.jpg

Well, comrades, it’s happened again. As a result of our ongoing efforts to rid the country’s educational system of violent behavior, another so called “child” is apprehended in the act of smuggling a potentially loaded revolver into his Calvert County school.

The Washington Post reports:“The case comes at a time of heightened sensitivity about guns in schools across the country. Locally, children in first and second grade have been disciplined for pointing their fingers like guns and for chewing a Pop-Tart-like pastry into the shape of a gun. In Pennsylvania, a 5-year-old was suspended for talking about shooting a Hello Kitty bubble gun that blows soap bubbles.”

The 5 year old “child” was captured aboard a school bus as he transported the concealed weapon in his backpack. After an intense 2 hour grilling by local police authorities the would-be killer admitted his guilt, punctuating the interrogation by wetting himself.

Calvert County authorities and FBI officers later told this reporter they had alerted bomb squad specialists to examine the weapon for explosive material in the form of caps. A remote control robot was dispatched to disassemble the potentially lethal device. No explosives were found, but the revolver has been sent to the FBI crime laboratory in Quantico, Virginia for further analysis.

The boy has been suspended for 10 days as a result of his crimes, but the penalty may be far worse according to the family’s attorney. “There is the possibility that, if the punishment stands, it would become part of the boy’s permanent school record and keep him out of classes the rest of the school year. He would miss his end-of-year kindergarten program at Dowell Elementary School in Lusby.”

Crime does not pay, comrades. …

Imagine That: California Health Care Exchange’s Claimed Premium Cuts Are Really 64%-146% Hikes

Posted on 31 May 2013

When Covered California, the Golden States’ health insurance exchange being set up under ObamaCare, initially announced its rates beginning in 2014, it claimed that rates will go down. Kevin Drum at Mother Jones (“if these early results hold up, Obamacare’s structure seems to be doing a pretty good job at its core mission of controlling prices.”) and Rick Ungar at Forbes (“the reality is that the early report card on Obamacare—at least in those states willing to give the law a chance to succeed—is looking pretty darn good. “) got suckered in.

It isn’t so, as Avik Roy explained yesterday at Forbes (bolds are mine):

NBC Reporters: Why is Obama Admin Backing Down on Targeting Press? ‘Everyone Knows How Unpopular the Media Are’

Posted on 31 May 2013

In a stunning example of how desperate the liberal media are to defend President Obama against the numerous scandals rocking his administration, on her Friday MSNBC show, host Andrea Mitchell actually justified the Justice Department targeting journalists: “I think if they had framed it…as this is national security, these were leaks in really major cases, everyone knows how unpopular the media are, far more unpopular.” [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Mitchell further explained: “The American people have said in a number of polls how they feel about this. They feel that national security is more important than First Amendment freedoms. It was not framed very advantageously.”
