Sounds like Socialism will be on the rise if Obama becomes President of the United States. Will Obama and the Dems in congress allow the seizure of 401(k) plans and private pension funds in the name of ”protecting workers’ retirement accounts”?
It appears that some Democrats on the Hill might try to kill 401(k) plans.
From usnews.com :
House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created ” guaranteed retirement accounts” for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since ” the savings rate isn’t going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that’s not generating what we now say it should.”
A few respectful observations:
1) McDermott is right when he says the savings rate isn’t going up. But the savings rate doesn’t include gains to money you invest in the stock market. It ignores the buildup of net worth. (If you bought a share of XYZ Corp. in January at $100, for instance, and its value doubled by December, the savings rate measure would still value that investment at $100. In short, the savings rate is a phony number.)
2) So based partly on the above faulty logic, the $4.5 trillion, as of the start of the year, invested in 401(k) plans doesn’t count as savings.
3) Ghilarducci would have workers abandon the stock market right at the bottom of the market. A stupid idea, according to Warren Buffett: ” I don’t like to opine on the stock market, and again I emphasize that I have no idea what the market will do in the short term. Nevertheless, I’ll follow the lead of a restaurant that opened in an empty bank building and then advertised: ‘Put your mouth where your money was.’ Today my money and my mouth both say equities. ”
4) Ghilarducci would offer a lousy 3 percent return. The long-run return of the stock market, adjusted for inflation, is more like 7 percent. Look at it this way: Ten thousand dollars growing at 3 percent a year for 40 years leaves you with roughly $22,000. But $10,000 growing at 7 percent a year for 40 years leaves you with $150,000. That is a high price to pay for what Ghilarducci describes as the removal of ”a source of financial anxiety and…fruitless discussions with brokers and financial sales agents, who are also desperate for more fees and are often wrong about markets.” Please, I’ll take a bit of worry for an additional $128,000.
5) What effect would this plan have on an already battered stock market? Well, I would imagine it would send it even lower, sticking a shiv into the portfolios of everyone who didn’t jump aboard. But I am sure the Chinese would love to jump in and buy all our cheap stocks to fund the retirement of their citizens.
Bottom line: If you believe in the long-run dynamism of the American economy, then you have to believe in the stock market. Listen to superinvestor Buffett, not the prof from the New School.

Barack Obama’s newly appointed Muslim outreach adviser is coming under fire for meeting with Islamic groups with extremist views, just two months after her predecessor resigned over links to a radical cleric.
Minha Husaini met with members of several Islamic organizations in Virginia on September 15 — including some that terrorism experts say have ties to Hamas and the radical Muslim Brotherhood.
Among the attendees were senior members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which was listed by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-related trial.
Several people connected to CAIR have been convicted of felonies — including on terrorism-related charges.
But critics say CAIR has a long history of masquerading as a moderate Islamic group.
”These groups, even if they themselves are not active terrorist organizations, do subscribe to large amounts of the ideology that fuels the terrorism that we are being confronted with,” said Andrew McCarthy, former Assistant U.S. Attorney.
Awad, who was at the September meeting with Husaini, recently attended a dinner with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Also present at the Sept. 15 meeting was Mahdi Bray, who has publicly announced his support for the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah. Bray, the executive director of the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation, raised his fist in the air during a rally in Washington in October 2000 to demonstrate his support for the terror groups.
The Obama campaign’s previous Muslim outreach advisor, Mazen Asbahi — who stepped down in August following reports he was linked to a radical imam — also attended the meeting.
Obama, has called Ayers, now a college education professor, ‘a guy in my neighborhood’ and said he and Ayers are not close. He told ABC News on Wednesday that McCain is trying to score ‘cheap political points’ by bringing up Ayers.
Ayers in the mid-1990s hosted a meeting at his house to introduce Obama to neighbors during Obama’s first run for a seat in the Illinois Senate. They also served on a nonprofit anti-poverty board together.
‘We don’t care about an old washed-up terrorist and his wife…’ McCain said. ‘That’s not the point here. The point is Sen. Obama said he was just a guy in the neighborhood. We know that’s not true. We need to know the full extent of the relationship because of whether Sen. Obama is telling the truth to the American people or not.’
A Web video ad released by the McCain campaign shows pictures of Obama and Ayers and said Obama has not told the truth about the extent of his ties with Ayers.
‘Americans say, ‘Where’s the truth, Barack?’ Barack Obama. Too risky for America’
[tags]obama ,mccain, acorn, ayers, wright, voter fraud ,ohio debate, sarah palin, socialism[/tags]
“Barack Obama is friends with Ayers, defending him as, quote, ‘Respectable’ and ‘Mainstream,’” the ad states. “Obama’s political career was launched in Ayers’ home. And the two served together on a left-wing board. Why would Barack Obama be friends with someone who bombed the Capitol and is proud of it? Do you know enough to elect Barack Obama?”
Obama tries to silence ad tying him to 60s radical group

There’s praising a colleague effusively.
And then, there’s going so far that the praise diminishes yourself and sticking your foot in your mouth.
At a town hall in Nashua, N.H., this afternoon, Senator Joe Biden seemed to veer off into the latter when talking about Hillary Clinton, whom many of her supporters wanted Barack Obama to pick as his running mate instead of Biden.
“Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America,” Biden said. “Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend; she is qualified to be president of the United States of America. She’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me, but she is first-rate.”
Republican John McCain’s campaign quickly sent out a video of it. It has been courting Clinton’s supporters, especially white women, and the polls suggesting McCain is making inroads.
What’s the difference between the presidential campaign before and after the national political conventions? Lipstick.
The colorful cosmetic has become a political buzzword, thanks to Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s joke in her acceptance speech that lipstick is the only thing that separates a hockey mom like her from a pit bull.
But has Obama gone too far to call Palin a Pig? As it appears that as Obama is loosing Independents, white women and hard working blue collar people, he’s trying really hard to slam the republican VP pick. It appears that his overall presidential campaign is in disarray. He’s spent too much time in the last few weeks in attacking Gov. Palin.
DONOTCHANGE
How Unpatriotic is Obama?
Democrats threw out 12,000 U.S. Flags with their trash after their Denver DNC convention a couple of weeks ago. They just threw our United States flag into the trash just like any other trash. Just like they do with aborted babies. Now that I think about it, I’m surprised there wasn’t some aborted babies in there wraped in flags as well.
A merchant after the DNC convention, found these flags trown in the trash and told soemone about it. Shortly thereafter, those flags were then rescued by the McCain campaign.
This a problem and pattern with Democrats. Why does it seem as though they are so unpatriotic? Why do they hate our country so much? If you recall, Obama’s best friend, William Ayres has invoked terrorism against our great country. How could anyone be associated with someone like Ayres? Barack Obama can, and really no one but he knows why.
Regardless, Obama’s friend Ayres is a Terrorist .
In the coming weeks, we’ll see how much more unpatriotic Barack Obama is and everything will come out into the open. But also watch out how he will try and go over the top in being patriotic to compensate.
John McCain will work for our country and Barack Obama will be working for other countries. There is a stark difference. Barack Obama is riddled with corruption and pork barrel spending.

UPDATE:
Ayres Was on Woods Fund Board with Obama WHen He Stepped on Flag!
Barack Obama was much older than 8 when William Ayers was photographed stepping on a US flag in 2001, for an article in which Ayers said he had “No Regrets ” for his violent actions in the Weather Underground.
In fact, at the same time Ayers was in a Chicago alley desecrating the flag, he and Barack Obama were serving on the board of the Woods Fund together: PolitiFact | Obama served on board with Ayers .
Deborah Harrington, president of the Woods Fund, a philanthropic organization in Chicago, said Obama was a director from 1994 through 2001. That overlaps Ayers’ time as a director by three years. It also means Obama served with Ayers for the final months of 2001, after Ayers made his comments to the New York Times.

8:59PM I stand corrected: It was the speech about Bush McCain. But where was Barack Obama? I don’t know. The suit was empty.
8:58PM I’m sorry I didn’t practice my George Costanza, because this was the speech about nothing.
8:57PM “We can not turn back, we cannot walk alone…” and then he fumbled the next line, going into the big finish.
8:56.5PM Not that I will, mind you.
8:56PM The MLK reference is powerful. But at this point, I am so infuriated with this guy, that I’m tempted — for the first time ever, after years of drunkblogging — to call it quits before it’s over.
8:52PM “I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington” Now there is one fine reason to vote for Obama. The trouble is, what DID he spend his career doing? <crickets chirping>
8:51PM “If you don’t have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare voters.” Scary things like… tax cuts? I hear Count Floyd saying, “Ooooh, scarrry stuff, kids.”
8:49PM What does the 2nd Amendment have to do with keeping guns out of the hands of criminals?
8:48PM “We ALL put our country first.” Unless there’s an international institution whose permission we need, or allies we need to consult, or dictators we need to talk to, or domestic terrorists we need to help launch our political careers.
8:48PM If Colorado isn’t in play, I planned on voting for Bob Barr. But Obama is being so dishonest tonight that I’m tempted to vote for McCain out of spite.
8:47PM Obama just had the gaul to claim that he won’t challenge McCain’s character. It’s not HIS fault that McCain is evil.
8:45PM Tough, direct … diplomacy! I negotiate in your general direction!
8:44PM “…Strained our oldest alliances.” Like all those right wingers recently elected in France and Germany and Italy who see our side more and more?
8:42PM Did Obama REALLY just accuse McCain of being unwilling to pursue bin Laden? I don’t like McCain. I don’t (yet) plan to vote for McCain. But I would NOT go around impugning John McCain’s manhood.
8:41PM “If John McCain wants to have a debate…” Uh, dude, McCain wants to have like ten debates, and you winced at holding three of them.
8:40PM Streamline bureaucracy? He’s not just Clinton ‘92, he’s also Gore ‘93!
8:39PM Not that McCain is any better, but HOW is Obama going to protect Social Security? And “equal pay for equal work”? In 2008? REALLY?
8:38PM More Clintonesque requirements of people who get government help. That’s not a bad thing — but it’s not how he campaigned in the primaries. He’s not just running against one lame duck, he’s running as another.
8:37PM The longer this goes on, the more I remember why I suffered such Obama Fatigue during the primaries.
8:37PM Yeah, he just tried to buy Michigan with promises that he’ll retool Detroit. Honda and Toyota build cars here people actually like, so why not give them money, too?
8:35PM The first person who gives me an accurate count of the number of times Obama says “McCain,” I’ll send a crisp twenty dollar bill. That’s right, twenty dollars. But I’m not sure science can count that high.
8:34PM “I will cut taxes for 95% of all working families.”Half of working families pay little or no income tax at all. If he wants to cut payroll taxes, then is he going to cut the programs they fund, too?
8:33PM Change means … and then … more anti-McCain stuff.
8:32PM “…rules of the road.” Another distinctly Clintonian reference. Are his internal polls showing him that he still doesn’t have the PUMA vote?
8:31PM Well. Lots of reasons to vote against Bush McCain so far… but very little in the way of reasons to vote for Obama.
8:30PM Is Obama really spending this much time talking about the grandmother he threw under the bus in his big racism speech last spring?
8:28PM “…when Bill Clinton was President!” Suck up. This guy is too good to need to bask in Clinton’s faded glory.
8:27PM The “ownership society” means “you’re on your own?” Has anyone successfully sold class warfare in this country since LBJ forty-plus years ago?
8:25PM “I don’t think John McCain doesn’t care about what’s going on, I think he just doesn’t know.” Painting McCain as an elitist? If it works, it’ll be the neatest trick since two guys in Halloween costumes levitated the Denver Mint.
8:24PM What does a mini-recession, perhaps already over, have to do with the old “nation of whiners” line?
8:23PM And Obama is STILL tying McCain to Bush. Lame, I tell you. But the “ten percent chance on change” line? Gorgeous.
8:22PM “Eight is enough.” And we all have diff’rent stokes, too!
8:21PM “Tonight I say… enough! This moment! This moment! This election is our chance to keep in the 21st century the American promise alive.” Powerful rhetoric, and used to paint McCain’s first term as Bush’s third. And I’ll tell you what: When you’re running against an a lame duck … that’s pretty lame.
8:21PM He just flubbed a line so badly, I found it hard to follow. That’s not good when you’re setting up an anecdote.
8:20PM “These challenges are not all the government’s making …” That’s a positively Clinton ‘92 line.
8:18PM Still hitting the humble beginnings note, with the “brief union” line. With divorce so prevalent, that line probably goes a long way to cementing his common man cred.
8:17PM A plug for Amtrack? Really? Then recognition of Michelle and the girls… and it’s hard to pick out which of the three is the prettiest.
8:16PM Big nice note to Hillary, and the camera moved right to … where she might have been sitting, had she stuck around for the big speech.
8:15PM “With great humility I accept.” I don’t buy that for one second but it was perfectly delivered.
8:14PM Michelle’s smile she’s kept hidden the last two nights? The one I said could light up the entire Pepsi Center? It’s on full display right now.
8:13PM This is a rock star performance. Or maybe just a rock star crowd. Whatever, it’s electrifying — and I say this as someone who would rather step on his own tongue than vote for someone with Obama’s record and worldview.
8:12PM Is the set over the top? Yes. But I’m wondering how else you fill all that space in a stadium.
8:11PM And away we go …
8:09PM And of course that was the goal.
8:08PM If the goal of Obama’s video hagiography is to make him seem like a down home, heartland guy, then: Mission Accomplished.
7:58PM (All times a mile high) What does Obama need to do tonight? Connect. He can seem aloof at times, and the setting at Mile High doesn’t help with that. Does he need to get specific? The talking heads think so, but I’m not so sure. Tonight is his night — his last before the general election — and so I think he ought to stick to what he does best. This is an acceptance speech, not a State of the Union address.

Dems Crack Down: ABC Reporter Arrested for Shooting Video on Public Sidewalk…
DENVER (Reuters) – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.
The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos’ National Football League team plays.
By Nicholas Ballasy
(CNSNews.com) – Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Ill. – where Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama worshipped for two decades – has received more than $1.5 million in federal tax money since 2003 through the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (FBCI), according to data provided to CNSNews.com by the White House and confirmed by Rebecca Neale, spokesperson for the FBCI.
Obama and his wife officially left Trinity United in May 2008 after their friend, the former long-time pastor of the church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, gave a controversial press conference in Washington, D.C.
Obama supports the FBCI and said in a speech in Zanesville, Ohio, on July 1, 2008 that the office has been “consistently underfunded” and “never fulfilled its promise.” He estimated that his program would cost about $500 million per year.
Under the FBCI program, Trinity United Church of Christ received a grant of $253,231 in 2003, the same amount in 2004, $363,200 in 2005, $352,450 in 2006, and $324,254 in 2007 for a total of $1,546,366. The grants went to the church’s child care centers.
The money was provided through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Head Start program, according to an official White House 1,054 page “aggregated data sheet” of FBCI funding.
According to the FBCI Web site, the program was established by President George W. Bush through an executive order on Jan. 29, 2001, to “lead a determined attack on need by strengthening and expanding the role of Faith Based and Community Organizations (FBCOs) in providing social services.”
Under the program, 11 federal agencies have Faith-Based and Community Initiative centers that distribute grants to various religion- and community-based organizations across the country that apply for the federal funding.
“The paramount goal is compassionate results, and private and charitable groups, including religious ones, should have the fullest opportunity permitted by law to compete on a level playing field,” said President George W. Bush in the executive order.
While pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, Wright gave many sermons considered controversial, touching on topics such as U.S. foreign policy, the 9/11 terrorism and racism. Wright also allowed guest preachers, such as the controversial Catholic priest Fr. Michael Pfleger, to speak at Trinity United.
In a sermon, Wright referred to the United States as the “U.S. of K.K.K. A.” He also, for example, said the following on April 13, 2008:
“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”
Fox News reported in March 2008 that Wright is moving into a new, 10,340 sq. ft. home paid for by Trinity United. He stepped down from his post on June 1, and Pastor Otis Moss took over as senior pastor. Moss invited Pfleger to speak on May 25, 2008, calling him “a friend of Trinity.”
“We must be honest enough to expose white entitlement and supremacy wherever it raises its head,” Pfleger said from the pulpit of Trinity United. “When Hillary was crying and people said it was put on, I really don’t believe it was put on.
“I really believe she just always thought, ‘This is mine. I’m Bill’s wife. I’m white and this is mine. I just gotta’ get up and step into the place.’ And then out of nowhere came ‘Hey, I’m Barack Obama,’ and she said, ‘Oh damn! Where did you come from? I’m White. I’m entitled. There’s a black man stealing my show,’” Pfleger said.
Obama gave Trinity United $22,500 when a member of the church, according to his 2006 tax returns.
On the stump, Obama has made his support for faith-based initiatives a primary component of his campaign’s outreach to Evangelical voters, vowing to expand the Bush administration’s current program if he is elected president and create what he calls the “Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.”
“Every house of worship that wants to run an effective program and that’s willing to abide by our Constitution – from the largest mega-churches and synagogues to the smallest store-front churches and mosques – can and will have access to the information and support they need to run that program,” Obama said during a speech on the Faith Based and Community Initiatives in Ohio on July 1, 2008.
“The challenges we face today – from saving our planet to ending poverty – are simply too big for government to solve alone,” he added.
The current program has been criticized during President Bush’s two terms by many groups, including Americans United for the Separation of Church and State who think the so-called separation of church and state precludes faith-based federal programs. On July 1, 2008 at a campaign stop in Ohio, Obama said the program was used to “promote partisan interests.”
“One of the key activities of these offices is to provide training and resources to faith- based organizations to ensure that they are adhering to church-state guidelines under the Constitution,” said Rebecca Neale, spokesperson for the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. “It’s not a partisan strategy. It is an effective governing strategy.”
If elected president, Obama has said his commitment to faith-based initiatives will not interfere with his belief in the separation of church and state.
“Make no mistake, as someone who used to teach constitutional law, I believe deeply in the separation of church and state, but I don’t believe this partnership will endanger that idea,” Obama said.
CNSNews.com spoke with persons at Trinity United about this story, but they declined to comment as of press time.

Senate Bill 1082, Born Alive Infant Protection Act
Democrats took control of the IL Senate with the 2002 elections. They sent Born Alive to the infamously liberal Health & Human Services Committee, chaired by Barack Obama.
As can be seen on the Actions docket, Obama held Born Alive on March 6, 2003, from even being voted on in committee. It is also important to note from the docket that on March 13, 2003, Obama stopped the senate sponsor from adding the lately discussed clarification paragraph from the federal BAIPA, to make the bills absolutely identical.
Obama’s “no” vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 6, 2002. (ABC inadvertently copied bill #1663, a companion bill. The vote for the Born Alive bill, #1662, was identical.)
The cornerstone bill was the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which defined legal personhood. This definition was identical to the federal BAIPA which was drafted from the definition of “live birth” created by the World Health Organization in 1950 and adopted by the United Nations in 1955….

Senator Barack Obama has chosen Senator Joseph Biden Jr. of Delaware to be his running-mate, turning to a leading authority on foreign policy and a longtime Washington hand to fill out the Democratic ticket, people told of the decision said.
Obama’s selection ended a two-month search that was conducted almost entirely in secret. It reflected a critical strategic choice by Obama: To go with a running-mate who could reassure voters about gaps in his resume, rather than to pick someone who could deliver a state or reinforce Obama’s message of change.
Biden is the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and is familiar with foreign leaders and diplomats around the world. Although he initially voted to authorize the war in Iraq — Obama opposed it from the start — Biden became a persistent critic of President George W. Bush’s policies in Iraq.
The selection was disclosed as Obama moves into a critical part of his campaign, preparing for the party’s four-day convention in Denver starting on Monday. Obama’s aides viewed the introduction of his vice presidential choice– including an afternoon rally Saturday at the old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois, the same place where Obama announced his candidacy on a freezing winter morning almost two years ago, and a tour of swing states – as the beginning of a week-long stretch in which Obama hopes to dominate the stage and position himself for the fall campaign.
Word of Obama’s decision leaked out hours before his campaign was scheduled to inform supporters via text and e-mail messages, and hours after informing two other top contenders for the vice presidential nomination – Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana and Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia – that they had not been chosen.

SEDONA, Ariz. — Sen. John McCain immediately began using Joe Biden’s own words against him early Saturday morning, drawing on the Democratic vice presidential nominee’s criticism of Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic primary.
“There has been no harsher critic of Barack Obama’s lack of experience than Joe Biden,” said McCain spokesman Ben Porritt. “Biden has denounced Barack Obama’s poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing — that Barack Obama is not ready to be President.”
Running against Obama for the presidency, Biden said nominating someone without national security credentials would be a “tragic mistake” and said that the presidency “is not something that lends itself to on-the-job-training.”
The first volley from McCain’s staff arrived at 1:50 a.m. ET, reflecting the new pace of presidential politics in the Internet era. And it foreshadowed what is certain to be a principal line of attack
Obama’s selection of Biden, which began leaking out Friday evening, set in motion a new Republican effort aimed at undermining the Democratic ticket even as the pair prepare to make their first public appearance as running mates in Springfield, Ill.
McCain aides are also likely to go after Biden by arguing that he does not represent the fundamental change that Obama has been promising since beginning his presidential run.
Biden, a 36-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, is a creature of Capitol Hill, someone who is steeped in the nuances of the legislature and is part of an institution that regularly gets terrible approval ratings by Americans.
Obama has been running against Washington, saying that the people there like McCain are the problem that needs to be fixed. McCain can argue that by choosing Biden, Obama abandons that case.
But McCain has to be careful. He has served in the Senate alongside Biden for more than two decades, a fact that Democrats are certain to point out. And Biden’s long experience with foreign policy issues is sure to blunt some of McCain’s criticisms of Obama.
Biden and McCain are friends, part of the elite Senate club, and are likely to offer praise for each other even as the general election campaign gets underway after the conventions.
But that will not prevent McCain from aiming his fire at his colleague, starting with Biden’s comments during the primary.
During one of the Democratic debates, Biden stood by comments about Obama that “I think he can be ready, but right now I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”
In August, Biden was harshly critical of Obama’s lack of experience, saying, “Having talking points on foreign policy doesn’t get you there.”
