Euro Hits Four Year Low

Posted on 01 June 2010

EU    The euro hit a new low Tuesday, after an American and British bank holiday. It hit $1.2112 , its lowest mark since April 2006. The European Central Bank commented saying ,in effect, that even with loan write downs peaking in 2010,the losses would”remain considerable” in 2011.

With Germany thinking about and as much saying they are considering going back to the Deutschmark and the continued turmoil in the Asian markets, will the Euro continue to be a viable currency in the future? There were doubts about the American dollar but it slowly has maintained at least a smattering of strength, down against the Yen, but still a traditionally safe currency. It remains to be seen if the Euro will continue to be the “tie that binds” the EU.
