Gulf of Mexico
In the days since the horrific disaster in the Gulf of Mexico when 11 lives were lost,an oil rig sunk, and thousands upon thousands of gallons of oil began spewing into the environment one question looms bigger than Texas. Why wasn’t the 1994 “In- Situ Burn Plan” implemented immediately?
With hordes of photo-oping, sound-biting, feds finally arriving in the Gulf region, including Director of Homeland Security Napolitano, not one single individual that was supposedly there to help had a clue as to what to do. Surprising since there WAS a plan to respond to a massive oil spill/accident in the Gulf. Elastec/American was eventually contacted days after the initial disaster started to bring in the only FIRE- BOOM it had in stock and they had contacted other countries to borrow their E/A fire- booms.
The Elastec/American fire-boom when towed behind two boats can effectively gather and burn off an amazing 75,000 gallons of oil an hour. If brought in initially they can drastically reduce the impact of massive spills to more managable levels.
US Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary landry had assured the Gulf Coast that the federal government had”all the assets it needed” yet never implemented the burn plan until a test a week later. Former NOAA response coordinater Ron Gouguet had speculate that upwards of 95% of the spill could have been contained and burned.
The entire Gulf Coast as well as the inland wetlands are now in dire jeopardy of being polluted for years to come with an economic impact that will dwarf Hurricane Katrina. Not only will the fishing industry, wildlfe and citizens be harmed for decades, but the oil industry that Louisiana and the rest of the Gulf depends on will be forever demonized. All for the lack of following the plan that already existed and known to work.
The administrations response was mostly to urge sueing BP and “keeping their boot on the neck” of BP”.

When will people learn about the dangers. I can’t even bring myself to look at any of the pictures or videos.
