The shuttle Atlantis is making its final trip to the International Space Station and due to dock at 10:27 EDT over the South Pacific. Commander Kenneth Hamm told the ISS crew “We’re chasing you down!” as Atlantis manouvered ever closer. He added that it was a “stunning view” as they approached the brightly glowing space station.
Twelve total astronauts will be together after the docking , the last mission for Atlantis. They will install fresh batteries and a new Russian module. Also on the to-do list is freeing a cable that is snagged on a camera. The cable is on a 100-foot boom and the snag is preventing its use in inspecting the shuttle for launch damage. Instead cameras aboard the ISS will take inspection shots.
Two more missions are on schedule for the shuttle fleet before its retirement. MediaCircus.com looks forward to whats next in the future of space exploration and gives a hearty “well done!” to all of the astonauts and NASA. God speed to all. Every one look up 215 miles and marvel at this high wire act in the center ring!
