Flyover,Kansas
Y
ou should be here. You really should. From here, in Kansas, the world is not so overpowering. The daily life is just as vibrant and bustling as any cosmopolitan confine in any corner of the planet, yet, just out our backdoor we can escape for awhile. We can ignore, if only for a while, the insanity that grips our Nation and the rest of the big blue mudball. We can step back and see the rest of it a bit more clearly from here than most of you out there can.
Most disparage this bit of America just as it always was. Desolate.Lonely. A vast wasteland. Flyover country. Go ahead and poke fun at something else you don’t understand. Here in Kansas, we tend to poke back. We don’t really take offense to your backward way of looking at us. Thats because we look at you and can see you from clearly for who and what you are, even from this distance.Even from out here along the barbed wire fences that seperate us from you.
We can see you in Washington DC, the belt way dwellers. The ones who pave the road to hell with intentions. We don’t even pretend to think that they are good anymore.
We can see you in California, commiting politically correct suicide. You are like “cutters” crying out for attention but you have finally cut yourselves so many times that you are bleeding to death.Pity its paper cuts that have done you in.
We can see you in Arizona being mugged by your own relatives and the report to the “Authorities” being disregarded.
We can see you on the Gulf, being thrown to the mercies of the inept and the corrupt. We can see you valiantly come to your own rescue.Again.
We can see you across the Globe for who and what you are.Either a weak , meek and mild friend: or a terrible, evil, inescapable foe.
You may laugh out loud, but we can see good for goodness sake, and evil for plainly what it is. We don’t run to a thesaurus for a “better” word to call things and people by. In todays vernacular, it is what it is. We don’t even argue what the definition of he word”is”is. Kansas, and its people, are in the middle of you all and everywhere we turn we see you. Each facet shining clearly revealing the details that get overlooked by the rest of you. Some of you do not look closely on purpose and others turn a blind eye. Some of you would call “the sun the moon and the moon the sun” just to do it. We have seen you do it.
We set the hills on fire every spring. We do it to winnow out the weeds and to grow the lush green hills anew.We can see the fires being set across the globe, but not as we do it, or for why we do it. Rest assured the result will be the same. There is going to be a prairie fire the likes of which you have never seen. Its gonna scare the hell out of you all as it races with the wind. Those setting it are doing it for altogether other reasons and hoping for a different result. But we know what will happen. After the blackening of earth and sky, the grass will grow back.Lush, green and full.Better than it was last season.
One thing to remember. When a cowboy has to ride the rankest bull at the rodeo, his life is in the hands of God and a couple of rodeo clowns. Cowboy up,America! By the way,I’m your rodeo clown. Mostly, I’m just here for laughs, but if you get bucked off I might just save your life. Well.God n me! Now who wants pie?
